Pitching In Southern League Premier Division South leaders Farnborough lost for the first time since
December 18th after going down 1-0 at Privett Park against a now fifth-placed Gosport Borough on
Saturday. What turned out to be the only goal of an entertaining game in front of a crowd of 681 came
five minutes before half-time when AJ Harris-Sealy put Dan Wooden through to finish well. Gosport’s
on-loan keeper Fynn Talley had a fine afternoon and saved well in the second half from Mitch Parker and
Paul Hodges twice to help keep a clean sheet and three crucial points.
Farnborough now possesses a two-point lead at the top as second-placed Hayes & Yeading United had
to make do with one point from a 1-1 draw at the Ray Mac against Salisbury. After a goalless opening
45 minutes, two goals came in a two-minute spell just after the hour-mark. Antonio Diaz put the Whites
in front, only for Moses Emmanuel to level for the visitors. Salisbury had to play the final few minutes with
ten-men after Dan Fitchett was sent-off in the 87th minute, playing after returning from a loan spell with
league rivals Hartley Wintney.
Third-placed Metropolitan Police are two points back after winning 3-2 at third-from-bottom Kings
Langley. The hosts got off to a flying start when first Will Hoskins after 10 minutes and then Jamie Jellis
eight minutes later, gave them a 2-0 lead. Liam Ferdinand pulled one back two minutes later and then
equalised five minutes before half-time. The Met’s Jack Mazzone missed a second-half penalty when his
effort struck a post, but they did manage to grab a winner five minutes from time with a lovely curling
effort from Sam De St Croix.
Taunton Town are a place and a point further back after winning 3-0 at bottom-markers Merthyr
Town. The Peacocks’ Ross Stearn was claiming the match ball after the game as his 2nd-minute effort
seemed to have gone in off him although it was credited as a Jaimie Cogman own goal. Stearn went on
to add two more in the second half, a 68th minute penalty and a Taunton third on 85 minutes.
The chasing pack also failed to make up much ground on Saturday.
Weston-super-Mare are sixth but were held to a 1-1 draw by seventh-placed Yate Town. Luke Hopper
gave the Bluebells an 11th-minute lead that Sam Avery levelled in the 26th minute.
And eighth-placed Chesham United went down to a 2-1 defeat at the Webbswood Stadium to Swindon
Supermarine. After a goalless first half, it was ‘Marine who broke the deadlock 11 minutes into the
second half through Tyrone Duffus. Harry Williams finished well past Sam Beasant to double the home
side’s lead in the 80th minute, although the Generals made it an interesting last few minutes when Brad
Clayton pulled one back on 85 minutes from the spot, but Lee Spalding`s side held on.
All that gave Truro City, who have games in hand, hope when they won 3-0 at Bolitho Park against a
Poole Town side who they leap-frogged to go tenth in the table. The returning Alex Battle gave the
White Tigers a great start with a 4th-minute opener. Owen Bevan headed a second on the half-hour mark
and a second for Battle six minutes after the break made it game over to lift the Cornishmen to within five
points of Weston in sixth.
Second-from-bottom Wimborne Town shared a 0-0 draw at New Cuthbury with Walton Casuals, while
Dorchester Town moved five points clear of third-bottom Kings Langley after picking up a point from
a 1-1 draw at the Avenue Stadium against fellow strugglers Tiverton Town. After a hard-fought but bitty
first half, the Magpies broke the deadlock on the hour-mark with a goal from Alfie Stanley. But on 81
minutes, Dorchester went down to ten-man when Tom Purrington was shown a straight red for a
challenge deemed reckless by the referee. And that gave the Yellows momentum which saw Aaron
Dawson equalise four minutes from time.
Hendon moved up to 12th in the table after a 2-1 win at Silver Jubilee Park against fifth-from-bottom
Hartley Wintney. In another game that turned around all-square at 0-0, Hendon scored the opener on
62 minutes through Joe White. Lucias Vine pulled the Row back on terms with six minutes remaining, only
for White to grab the Greens` winner three minutes later.
The biggest win of the day went to Beaconsfield Town, who inflicted a 6-1 hammering on Harrow
Borough at Holloways Park. It was 2-0 to the Rams at the break, thanks to Ollie McCoy after 14 minutes
and Nathan Minhas on 27 minutes. Minhas added his second and Beaconsfield’s third just eight minutes
after half-time and Toby Little got in on the act with a fourth just four minutes later. Joe Otudeko reduced
the deficit on 65 minutes, only for Dan Bradshaw to make it a nap hand for the Rams on 81 minutes and
Minhas to complete his hat-trick four minutes from the end
