Good afternoon and a very warm welcome to
Saltash United for this Toolstation Western League
Premier Division clash. Our committee would also
like to welcome today’s match officials, referee John
Duffy and his 2 assistants, Alex Setchell & Martin
Chown.
It is also a pleasure for us to have some of our
Under 10 squad here today, who will be mascots
and fetch the ball when required! This is something
that we successfully introduced about 5 years ago,
as it helps strengthen the vital link between our Senior and Junior sections.
However Covid put a stop to all that, so this afternoon is another welcome
return to how life used to be!
After the disappointing performance at home to Shepton Mallet a fortnight
ago, the lads produced an excellent display last Saturday as we trekked off
to deepest, darkest Cornwall to face Mousehole. After last season’s fiasco
with this fixture, which I’m sure you all recall, it was a relief to get this game
out of the way!
An early goal from top scorer Owen Brain got us off to a great start, but the
hosts equalised before halftime. Two quick goals after the break put them
3-1 up, but Tyler Linton pulled one back with a few minutes remaining.
Sadly we couldn’t grab an equaliser, but all credit to the lads for pushing a
team all the way that has only lost one League game so far this season.
This week sees us make the (relatively) short journey over to face Clevedon
Town on Wednesday (19:30 kick-off), before we are back here at Crown
Fields again next Saturday for the visit of Helston Athletic (15:00 kick-off).
Thank you as always for your valued support. Up the Ks!!
