Division One South club AFC Totton will have enjoyed their 2-0 home win over Premier
Division South side Dorchester Town even more after their management team quit to join
the Magpies earlier in the week! Hisham Kasimu broke the deadlock to put the Stags in front
in first half injury-time. And then the home side confirmed their place in the hat for Monday’s
draw with a second from Ethan Taylor four minutes from time.
Three Division One South teams triumphed over Premier Division South opposition.
Frome Town edged out Poole Town by the odd goal in five at Badger’s Hill. The visitors
took a 17th-minute lead when Will Fletcher headed home at the far post. The equaliser
arrived when a Jack Witcombe cross just about evaded Jon Davies but fell perfectly for Kane
Simpson to tap into the net, but just four minutes later Frome made it 2-1 with a terrific solo
effort by Rex Mannings. Frome made it 3-1 a minute before the break through Davies. Luke
Burbidge halved the deficit in the 66th minute but, despite a good deal of pressure on the
home goal, Frome held out to record a good win.
Yate Town may be making the Emirates FA Cup headlines, but they were on the wrong end
of an upset on Saturday as Willand Rovers won 2-0 at the South West Interiors Stadium.
Rovers took an early 5th-minute lead through Ben Griffith. And on 23 minutes, they doubled
their advantage through Bailey Kempster. Five minutes into the second half, the Bluebells
chances of getting back into the game all-but disappeared when they had experienced
forward Stuart Fleetwood dismissed for violent conduct.
Merthyr Town’s long trek down to Bolitho Park to play Plymouth Parkway ended in a 1-
0 defeat. Just as it looked as though it was heading for penalties, Rio Garside slid home
Parkway`s winner in the 89th minute.
There were a handful of `upsets` against Southern League sides, including two who had
       home advantage.
Hartley Wintney edged out Division One South visitors Melksham Town 2-1. The home
side had a bad start when defender Pascal Kpohomouh deflected a cross past his own keeper
after just five minutes. And it certainly didn’t look good for the Row when, after just 33
minutes, they were reduced to ten-men when Jordan Edwards was shown a straight red card
for a reckless challenge on Matt Hurley. But second half goals from Sam Argent and Mitch
Parker turned the game in the home side`s favour and sealed their passage into Monday`s
       draw.
Salisbury triumphed 2-1 at Privett Park in a feisty encounter against Gosport Borough.
After Dan Wooden had given Boro an early lead, Tom Blair and Sam Ashton gave the Whites
a 2-1 lead they held onto. There was a flash-point in the second half which saw a red card
for both teams – Darren Mullings for Salisbury and Ryan Woodford for Boro, who also had
       manager Shaun Gale dismissed.
Weston-super-Mare edged a 3-2 win over Taunton Town in the Somerset derby at the
Optima Stadium. Jacob Wannell gave the Peacocks a 21st-minute lead they held until the
break Four minutes after the restart, Nick McCootie equalised, only for Wannell to restore
Taunton-s lead in the 70th minute. Scott Laird levelled just three minutes later and then it
was he who grabbed the winner with six minutes remaining.
Cinderford Town made it through against outside opposition, although they required a
penalty shoot-out. Zak Drew gave the Foresters the lead after 17 minutes at The Causeway
against former league rivals and now Isthmian South Central side Thatcham Town. Daniel
Fosu equalised on the half-hour mark. Ben Brooks looked to have sealed Cinderford’s
passage when he made it 2-1 with only four minutes to go. But Fosu’s second in time added
on sent the tie to a shoot-out which Cinderford edged 5-4.
Paulton Rovers were comprehensively dumped out 5-1 at home by Division One South
rivals Larkhall Athletic. The Larks took a first-minute lead when they were awarded a
penalty which Lewis Powell converted. They added a second two minutes later through Dan
Crumb and made it 3-0 on 27 minutes through Tom Fry. Rovers pulled a goal back as
Leighton Thomas curled in a 40th-minute free-kick. Matt Baker scrambled a fourth goal after
65 minutes and with five minutes left, Powell made it 5-1 with his second of the tie.
