It was our 2 trip down the M5 in 7 days, another good performance, and another

fun trip back but left another 3 points down south. Our performance earned
plaudits and compliments but that doesn’t get you out of the relegation battle.

On a hard surface against a very strong wind it was the visitors who should have
opened the scoring , in the 10 minute James Batchelor split the Saltash defence

playing in Conor Hartley whose shot was well saved and pushed around the post
for a corner.
A &B had the next best chance when Batch’s 20 yard shot clipped the cross bar

with their keeper beaten. The Stags as a team were resolute and Coomber only
had a couple of comfortable saves to make. So it was a major disappointment that
the home side took the lead in the 35 minute when Rubin Wilson was left
th
unmarked at the far post to poke home from close range.
3 minutes into the restart Ashes all-time top scorer, Sam Hughes doubled his
side’s lead with a low drive from 12 yards under the advancing Coomber. Hughes
nearly scored a 2 but for a great block from Hartley and minutes later his 20 yard

drive was a bit too high.
With 20 minutes left home midfielder Sam Farrant was shown a 2 yellow. The

Stags upped their game, a well flighted ball from Tom Anthony cleared the host’s
st
defence found Alfie Cummins who has made a great 20 yard run. A great 1 touch
over the keeper’s head and a close range volley gave Alfie his 3 goal of the
rd
season. The Stags pressed but couldn’t breach the home defence, a deserved and
vital point evaded us.
