Today’s Game
Firstly, Cribbs FC would like to extend a very warm welcome to the visiting
players, team management, supporters and officials of Bradford Town,
together with the match officials for today’s Hellenic League match. We hope
that you enjoy your visit to the Lawns.
Match Reports
Our last home match was two weeks ago against Corsham Town and during
the week Quedgeley Wanderers had problems raising a side for the
Gloucestershire Challenge Trophy, so this was in fact our last week.
The first half of the Corsham match was an even affair, but we struggled with
our fluency against a well drilled opposition and unable to dominate.
Corsham scored the opening goal of the game on the half an hour mark. A
hopeful ball came forward looking like it would evade both defender and
attacker, causing Liam Kingston to adjust his position slightly. Unfortunately,
the ball took a deflection and fell into the path of Ryan Bath and his quick
thinking saw him lob Kingston to make it one nil.
The second half saw Cribbs take the upper hand and looked very likely to
overturn the deficit after creating multiple chances.
With twenty minutes remaining substitute George Kellow crashed a shot
against the post. Jake Hodgson and Steve Murray efforts from the rebound
were blocked heroically by the Corsham back line, ensuring that the score
remained one nil.
Cribbs continued to press for an equalize but were caught out by a late
breakaway and excellent finish from Corsham’s Chippenham Town loan
signing who sealed their two-nil victory.
Corsham Town’s manager praised his sides resilience and noted that they
had emerged victorious against a strong Cribbs side, who on another day
may well have got something from the match.
The Christmas and New Year programme sees us take on Bradford Town
today, Chipping Sodbury on Boxing Day and a Bank Holiday trip to Evesham
for a fixture against runaway leaders Bishop’s Cleeve.
This Afternoon’s Opponents
We visited Bradford Town earlier in the season and poor defending cost us
as we lost 3-2, despite battling back to parity twice.
Steve Murray scored a delicate free kick and Jake Hodgson fired in a volley
from the edge of the box. Ace goal scorer George Box notched twice for
Bradford and Charlie Wiles-Richards chipped in with a header to ensure the
home side emerged victorious.
Bradford are on an excellent run, having won five out of their last six
matches. Their last match ended in a 3-1 defeat at fellow top six outfit
Brimscombe and Thrupp.
They currently sit two places and two points above us having played the
same number of games.
As always, get behind the boys!!! UTC
