Bris v Sha esbury Town
The feisty first 45 ended, but each team was keeping the other honest, and there were no weak links
on either side.
Half Time 0-0
The second half started with the home side looking the more dangerous, with much of the football
played in the visitors' half. McLennan and Doddimead were working well off Griffiths who was
having an epic ba le with the two huge and uncompromising centre halves.
Egan got an early shot at goal which was saved by the keeper. Doddimead raced away from his
marker a er a lovely ball from Williams sent him beyond the defence, but he couldn't quite get his
le footed shot off. Griffiths had a half chance a er good work from McLennan resulted in his cross
finding the striker who couldn't quite find the target, and it was McLennan again who found Egan
whose rasping low strike from outside the box flew just wide with the keeper mo onless.
Sha esbury equally had their moments, Phillips fired close from distance, and a very-well-worked
free kick saw Panesar-Dower strike from close range requiring an ins nc ve Charlie Phillips hand to
push the ball onto the bar, and subs tute Pope fired wide with his le foot effort.
The ring Josh Egan was replaced for Jordan Scadding on 68 minutes, then shortly a er Allward
swapped with Jones, Allward dropping in at centre back, pushing Smith back in to his more familiar
midfield role. With the sides s ll t-for-tat and compe ng hard for any advantage as we headed into
the final minutes the breakthrough came for the visitors, albeit slightly conten ously from the hosts'
perspec ve.
Doddimead looked to be outpacing a retrea ng defender to the ball as it rolled toward the sideline,
when the defender looked to go down in despera on taking the pacey forward with him.
A free kick was awarded: surprisingly, though, it was awarded to the defender. The long free kick was
punted forward and Ricke s looked to have been pushed while in the air, the ball falling to subs tute
Ash Pope who rounded Allward and finished well into keeper Charlie Phillips' far corner. The pleas
for the foul con nued but landed on deaf ears as the away team celebrated.
There was a late push from the Foxes and the final ten minutes were played out mostly in the
Sha esbury half, as the away side looked content to defend their lead and see out the final
moments. McLennan was to have the final effort with a mazey run and shot which missed by a
whisker, but it was not to be for the hosts and Sha esbury progress to the next round.
All-in-all there was nothing to choose between the two sides, the game played out as expected with
the finest of margins separa ng them in the end.
Next up for the Foxes, another home game V Radstock who are unbeaten so far this term
