A few words from the manager...
FILTON ATHLETIC 2 - 0 STOKE GIFFORD SGS UTD (17th August 2024)
“A fantastic performance from everyone on Saturday in our local derby, which
due to Stoke Gifford being a league above us we haven’t had the opportunity
to compete in the past few seasons.
We knew we were taking on a very good side, especially considering their
previous two results where they were yet to concede a goal and seemed to be
scoring freely.
We set up with a clear game plan in a brave formation and the lads stuck to it
and executed it perfectly. We were the far better side in the first half and
unlucky not to go in 2-0 up.
In the second half our opponents had far more of the ball than us which we
had prepared for, knowing that if we stuck to our jobs they would struggle to
create clear sights of goal and we would get chances on the counter. This is
exactly how things played out and I think we kept them down to about 2 shots
at our goal all game. A great job and well done to all the boys.
The most positive thing to come from the game is that we still have a lot more
to give, with the lads gradually getting fitter and sharper with each game. Four
points from six is a decent start in our goal to stay in this league.”
