League Review
Corsham Town hold a one-point advantage at the top of the Premier Division from
quintuple-chasing Worcester City after their latest 3-1 win at relegation-haunted
Wantage Town. Owen Humphries 2 and Matthew Jones were their marksmen with Felix
Robertson replying with a consolation goal for Wantage.
Worcester City notched a narrow 2-1 victory at Hereford Pegasus. Elliott Hartley gave
Worcester the lead at the start of the second half, but Pegasus levelled after 66 minutes
through Cawley Cox. However, it took City just a minute to restore their lead through Kyle
Belamonte, a lead they held until full time.
A comfortable 4-0 win over Brimscombe & Thrupp has strengthened Royal Wootton
Bassett’s grip on a play-off spot thanks to Alfie Presley 2, Thomas Ouldridge and Louis
Spalding.
Highworth Town, Slimbridge and Fairford Town are tied together on 57 points and one
of them will miss out on a play-off place. Highworth fell behind at Thornbury Town to a
goal from Jotham McLaughlin and had to settle for a point after an equaliser by Rhys Wells.
Shylak Sutherland scored twice and Jack Smith the other to give Slimbridge a 3-1 win over
rivals Fairford Town who replied through Joe Shutt.
Roman Glass St. George won the local derby at Mangotsfield United 4-2 with two late
goals. After a goal less first 45 minutes, Josh Jenkins and Shea Bennington-Mannings fired
Saints into a two-goal lead only for Mangos to fight back through Jack Nunn and Jaydn
Crosbie to level the scores. Junathain Walker and Loui Ward added further strikes in the final
five minutes to snatch the points which keep Saints in with an outside chance of a play-off
spot.
Cinderford Town are also chasing the final place and maintained their interest by edging
out Tuffley Rovers by the odd goal in five. Ethan Hayes, Craig Norman and Harry Knight
were their marksmen, whilst Mark Pritchett and Josh Radford hit back for Tuffley.
Thornbury’s point became more important in their fight against relegation when Lydney
Town lost 3-0 at Westfields who won thanks to two goals from Ollie Barnes and one from
Dan Stoneman though it is expected that only one team will be relegated.
Pershore Town had doubles from Toby Nicoll and Josh Willis in a 4-2 win at Hereford
Lads Club. Sam Griffiths and Isaac Powell were on target for Hereford.
FC Bristol’s First Division play off hopes were dealt a severe blow when they lost 4-0 to
Southam United in their final home fixture of the regular season. Two goals from Craig
Watkin and one each from Andrew Yeates and an own goal saw them well beaten. They now
lie three points adrift of Devizes Town who hold the final play off spot, but they do still
have a game in hand.
The new champions of Division One are Hartpury University who sewed up the title in
runaway fashion, trouncing relegation battlers Moreton Rangers 4-0 with goals coming
from King Baidoo 2, Louis Manning and an own goal.
Clanfield 85 and Malmesbury Victoria are vying for the runners-up position with just one
point dividing them. Malmesbury beat Abingdon United 3-1 to close up, netting through
Steve Robertson 2 and Kyle Witt. Casey Highmoor replied for the visitors.
Kian Hamer, Jacob Williams and Ben Cook were on target to earn FC Stratford victory by
the odd goal in five against Calne Town, for whom Stuart Windsor hit back with a brace.
Stonehouse Town and Tytherington Rocks served up a seven-goal thriller with the
home side just having the edge by the odd goal. Nick Humphries scored twice, Spencer
Martin and Luke Soule for the home side; Nathan Croot 2 and Kyle Head replied for the
Rocks.
Newent Town suffered a setback to their attempts to escape relegation when they lost 3-1
at home to fellow strugglers Long Crendon but they would hope to have done enough
already in order to survive. George Watkins scored their consolation goal, but the visitors
took the spoils thanks to Declan Allen-Stokes, Josh Richardson and Ben Sykes.
Kidlington Reserves remain in the bottom three places after a 2-1 home defeat by
Sporting Club Inkberrow. Dan-Lewis Bamana and Joel Steer gave the away side the
points, but Kidlington stayed interested after Ryan Chambers’ goal.
