Match Report

ASHTON & BACKWELL UTD 2 CADBURY HEATH 2
                      STAGS LATE COMEBACK CLAIMS
                           A SHARE OF THE POINTS
An overcast but dry evening saw Cadbury Heath make the short trip across the
city for this midweek game. The first real action on 6 minutes didn't auger well,
when Tom Roberts took time to clear the ball, fortunately the ball ricocheted
wide off the attacker. A couple of minutes later, following a long throw on the
right wing , slack home defending allowed Ali Boyer to pounce on a loose ball
4 yards out and turned it in for the visitors. 0-1
Chances were few and far between for most of the rest of the half, Cadbury
Heath having most of the ball, and looking more dangerous. Backwell’s best
chance saw a close range effort from Saunders cleared off the line and their
keeper saving the follow up. Kitan Jaiyeoba was taken off after 22 mins after
collecting a knock, Joe Banks replaced him. On 40 minutes, tempers flared after
a tackle by Alfie Cummings, he received a yellow, and Heath's Sid Partridge got
one too for his reaction. They were quickly followed in to the book by James
White, after he pulled a visiting player back to stop a breakaway. A glimmer of
hope just before the break for the home side, Charlie Saunders threading a
pass through for Alfie Cummings which he latched onto but fires just over. One
nil to the visitors at half time.
More pressure from Cadbury Heath as soon as the second half started,
following a long punt upfield from the visitor’s Goalkeeper, our defence missed
the opportunity to clear the lofted ball and Callum Whooley broke clear and
fired home to make it 0-2.
Ashton and Backwell then made a couple of early substitutions early in the half
to try and change the game, Bishop and Langlais (to make his debut) coming
on to replace Press and Cattermole. On 62 mins Ashton & Backwell broke down
the left, a Walker cross found Cummins, his shot was blocked but the rebound
fell kindly to Zak Ford. The right back was completely unmarked and hit a sweet
shot from 15 yards low into the corner of the net to narrow the deficit. 1-2
Tom Anthony came on to replace Harry Walker, and the game started to shift,
Ashton and Backwell now having the lion's share of possession. James White
picked up a second yellow for following through after a tackle and the home
side were down to ten men with 10 minutes to go. The home side continued to
press and in the 82nd added minute won a corner on the left. Alfie Cummings
sent over a lovely cross to the far post and Joe Bishop was there to head it in
from close range and level up the game. 3 minutes later it was almost
Groundhog Day, another deep Cummins corner, another Bish header, but just
        wide.
Now into injury time the Stags continued the pressure, from a Anthony long
throw, the ball fell to Shea , 6 yards out with his back to goal, his firm back-heel
shot was goal bound, a goal line deflection prevented a winning goal. Final
        Score 2-2.
