Good afternoon and a very warm welcome to everyone
for this Toolstation Western League game at home to
Falmouth Town. This is our visitors’ first season in the
Western League following their fantastic promotion
campaign from the South West peninsula League last
season. We welcome everyone connected with Falmouth
to our League and hope you enjoy your visit to Crown
Fields this afternoon and that you have a safe journey
back to Cornwall. Our committee would also like to
welcome today’s match officials, referee John Reed and
his 2 assistants, David Jones & Rob Taylor.
Much reference was made to our poor first month of the season, but as I have said
countless times, the “bedding in process” for these young players was always
destined to be a long and challenging one. We always knew it would take time for
these young lads to come to terms with the physicality of men’s football at this level
when they’d been so used to the academy game; but what I personally didn’t
expect was them to adjust as quickly as they have done after confronting such a
steep learning curve.
We head into today’s encounter with Western League newcomers Falmouth Town
in much better heart and shape after steadying up with 4-0 and 1-0 victories over
Wellington and Sherborne Town respectively in our last two eye-catching outings.
Our new coach, Juan Mascuano, who has coached with Atletico Madrid, Real
Madrid and Bristol City academies, can take credit for much of that, as can Ash
Morgan for the many hours’ hard work he has put into establishing our First Team
squad.
After so much travelling in August, it is nice to now have 2 home games on the trot!
I hope you enjoy today’s game and look forward to seeing you back here at Crown
Fields next Saturday 24th September (my birthday) at 3:00pm, when we will be
hosting Street in the League.
Thank you for your loyal support and for the encouragement you have given our
young stars – this is appreciated massively by everyone at the club.
