Somerset FA Premier Cup
Statement regarding The SFA Premier Cup from the Somerset FA which we were due to
play Weston in the Semi Final
As you will be aware the inclement weather and subsequent fixture conges on from re-
Non-League Paper
arranged games this winter have caused numerous problems, this has been a par cular
problem concerning the later stages of this year’s UES Premier Cup.
The Larkhall Athle c v Taunton Town semi-final could not be played any earlier than the
week commencing 22nd April as Taunton had to complete their league fixtures in the
previous week which would have meant we would not know at least one finalist un l a
week before the final. Concerning the other semi-final, Brislington’s fixture backlog would
see them play three mes a week for the last two weeks of the season, resul ng in not
finishing their fixtures un l Saturday 27th April and consequently not being available to
play the semi-final un l the week commencing 29th April; with the final scheduled for 1st
May, this would mean one finalist would have to play the semi-final two days before the
final which is clearly not a realis c proposi on. To complicate further, Brislington is also
likely to be involved in league playoffs in the scheduled week commencing 29th April, a
scenario which would likely delay both any semi-final date and subsequent final even
further.
A er consulta on, the Somerset FA Cups Commi ee has concluded that there will be
insufficient me to complete the remaining fixtures in this year’s compe on in the
current playing season, and have therefore, reluctantly decided that we will pause the
compe on at the semi-final stage and resume the compe on at the beginning of
2024/2025 season. This is not a decision that has been made easily but is one that is the
most realis c op on available. There is precedence for delaying the culmina on of the
Premier Cup Compe on, the 2018-2019 compe on final was played in August a er we
ran out of me at the end of the 2018-19 season.
We will reschedule both the semi-finals and the final for the start of next season, the semi-
finals to be played from the week commencing 15th July.
The final will take place on Wednesday 31st of July; we are delighted to say that Bath City
will remain the host of the final; we would like to record our thanks to Bath City for their
considerable help in this process.
This has been communicated to all four semi-finalists, we are obviously disappointed that
we do not have sufficient me to complete the compe on in the remaining me available
this season and are sorry for any inconvenience that this may cause but look forward to an
exci ng start to the new season with the culmina on of the Premier Cup in the summer.
