Avonmouth FC v Broadwell Amateurs
The afternoon’s game was preceded by the observance of a minute’s silence for
Remembrance Day.
Avonmouth started brightly with a shot in the second minute that was off target
but after five minutes Josh Pearce was played through but flagged offside.
Avonmouth kept the pressure on the Broadwell goal and the breakthrough came
in the 13th minute when a long ball from Kofi Martin found Jack Williams who
headed Avonmouth into the lead. Just five minutes later Pearce was again played
in but he shot over the bar. It wasn’t until the 21 minute that saw the first threat
st
from Broadwell following a long cross saw Jordan Locke shoot over the bar. Just a
minute later saw Avonmouth extend
their lead when Kyle O’Donovan
headed in from a corner.
Avonmouth’s dominance continued
with the best move of the game
ending with Pearce hitting the post
in the 27 minute.
th
The first half continued with half
chances for Avonmouth but
Broadwell provided a strong finish to
the half that saw two opportunities
for Liam Thomas who went around
the Avonmouth keeper but put the
ball wide of the goalmouth.
The second half saw Broadwell come
out strong and they had several
long-range shots. Broadwell
continued with their long throw
strategy at every opportunity and
after 52 minutes it nearly paid off
with a chance for Thomas at the near post.
The goal of the game came in the 53 minute when Pearce picked the ball up in
rd
his own half, then beat 2 players on the right side, before cutting past two
defenders and shooting low into the corner of the Broadwell goal to make the
score 3-0.
In the 55 minute a back pass to Avonmouth keeper Tom Bradley needed him to
th
hurriedly clear to prevent a half chance to Broadwell who then continued to press
for the next 10 minutes that saw Bradley in great form. Avonmouth then got back
on top and saw Pearce, Matt Groves and Dillan Kerr all come close to extending
Avonmouth’s lead. Broadwell kept going and were rewarded with a penalty
following a cross from the right that hit Charlie Aldom’s elbow and Liam Thomas
scored from the spot to make the final score 3-1.
