In Town today WINCHESTER CITY F.C.
In the 2018-19, City had an impressive pre-season including victories over Dorchester Town
and Eastleigh. City started strongly in the league too. This went hand-in-hand with a cup run
that saw the Citizens make it through to the 4 Qualifying Round of the FA Cup, following
th
victories against Bournemouth Poppies, Frome Town, Merthyr Town and Cirencester Town
before eventually losing 4-1 away at Torquay United. City’s league form dipped slightly
during this period but a strong finish to the season meant that City missed out on the play-
offs on the last day of the season. City needed three points away at Cinderford Town, but
the game finished 0-0 meaning it was in fact Cinderford that finished in the final play-off
berth.
Tyrell Mitford, Joe Cook and Josh Harfield left the club during the 2019-20 pre-season and
into the club have come Kieran Douglas, Keith Emmerson, Olly Balmer and Dan Williamson
has returned to City. City performed well during the 2019-20 campaign and were 4 in the
th
league with a play-off berth looking likely when the season was curtailed due to Covid-19.
City made the First Qualifying Round of the FA Cup before losing to Taunton Town but
impressive cup runs in the local competitions took place once again. City were also League
Cup semi-finalists, securing £1000 prize money for doing so.
The 2020-21 campaign was also cut short due to Covid-19, with the club once again in fourth
spot.
However, the following season, was finished, and it finished with City securing promotion to
the Southern Premier League for the first time in the clubs’ history, beating Bristol Manor
Farm in the play-off final.
It was an impressive campaign throughout with some remarkable results along the way, a
season that culminated with a comprehensive win away at Cirencester Town (4-1) in the
play-off semi-final and then Manor Farm were emphatically beaten, again 4-1, in the final at
the Charters Community Stadium. City scored five against Lymington Town, five at Evesham
United, 11 at Millbrook, five at Romsey Town, four at Barnstaple Town and Mangotsfield
United, five at home to Bristol Manor Farm and also five away at Cinderford Town, during a
remarkable campaign.
The summer ahead of the 2022-23 season saw the departures of Balmer, Bailey, Douglas,
Griggs, Chugg, Feeney, McCormick and Nolan but in their place came Bertie, Obeng,
Jamison, MacAllister, Neild, Willcox, Torniainen, Herbert and IK Hill returned to the club.
Pre-season ahead of 2022-23 has seen a loss at Slough Town but draws with Corsham Town
and Whitehawk and victories at Alton, Baffins Milton Rovers, Worthing and AFC Totton.
