Whilst the title race in the Pitching In Southern League Premier Division Central may already
be over bar the shouting, it’s certainly not in the Premier Division South as only three points
separate the top four after Saturday’s round of games.
Hayes & Yeading United are back on top of the table after they won 4-1 at bottom side
Wimborne Town. To be fair to the Magpies, Hayes & Yeading’s goals at New Cuthbury
were almost all superb efforts from Moses Emmanuel in the 39th and 41st minutes and, after
Aaron Roberts had pulled one back on 55 minutes, from Jordan Ngalo after 76 minutes and
Emmanuel again, who completed his hat-trick four minutes into stoppage time.
Defences held firm at Imber Court as Metropolitan Police dropped to second after being
held to a 0-0 draw by tenth-placed Truro City.
Taunton Town are now just a point behind the Met in third after beating fifth-placed
Chesham United 3-1 at The Cygnet Health Care Stadium in front of a crowd of 753.
Ben Adlesbury gave the hosts a 17th-minute lead that Bradley Clayton immediately levelled.
It wasn’t until the 64th minute that Taunton re-took the lead with a second for Adelsbury.
And it was eight minutes into time added on at the end of the game when Ross Stearn finally
added the Peacocks’ third.
Farnborough dropped to fourth after being held to a 1-1 draw at the Easy As HGV Stadium
by sixth-placed Weston-super-Mare, who are just two points now behind Chesham. Elliott
Buchanan, now a permanent Boro player, gave them a 22nd-minute lead that was eventually
cancelled out in the 68th minute by Marlon Jackson.
Yate Town are firmly back in the top five race after their 2-1 success at Silver Jubilee Park
against Hendon put them within a point of Weston in seventh. Luke Hopper gave the
Bluebells an early 4th-minute lead. Joe White equalised nine minutes into the second half,
only for Andy Lewis to score what proved to be Yate’s winner in the 71st minute.
Gosport Borough are level on points with Yate in eighth but have played three more
games. They beat second-from-bottom Merthyr Town 2-1 at the Met Coaches Stadium.
A fine strike from 20 yards by Matt Paterson gave Boro a 39th-minute lead that Curtis
Jemmett-Hutson cancelled out just past the hour-mark. A draw looked on the cards until
Matt Briggs popped up with Boro’s winner a minute into stoppage time.
Poole Town are ninth, four points behind Gosport and Yate but have also played 36 games.
The Dolphins kept their faint hopes alive though after beating fifth-from-bottom Hartley
Wintney 2-1 at the Black Gold Stadium. Tony Lee gave the hosts an 11th-minute lead that
Kyen Nicholas levelled in the 24th minute. Corby Moore restored Poole’s lead in the 54th
minute – a goal that proved to be the winner in a hard-fought encounter.
Dorchester Town did their survival hopes a power of good as their 2-1 win at Kings
Langley saw the teams swap places, with the Magpies now in 19th – two points in front of
their hosts with a game in hand. Brad Watkins’ 33rd-minute goal gave the home side an
interval lead. But within seconds of the restart, Alfie Stanley equalised and just two minutes
later, Harry McGrath netted what turned out to be the winner for the Magpies in a crucial
‘six-pointer’.
Salisbury looked to be heading back to Wiltshire with a point from their trip to the
Elmbridge Xcel Sports Hub against Walton Casuals. Then Rohdell Gordon finally broke the
deadlock in the 90th minute to give the Stags the lead and four minutes into time added on,
Danny Rowe added a second.
It was a ‘game of two halves’ at the Webbswood Stadium between Swindon Supermarine
and Beaconsfield Town. Harry Williams on the half-hour mark and Henry Spalding a
minute before the break gave ‘Marine a 2-0 interval lead. But a Nathan Minhas brace on the
hour-mark and then in the final minute earned the Rams a point.
