Frampton United v Avonmouth FC

Avonmouth visited Frampton’s Bell Field for the top of the Gloucestershire County
League clash on the 14 October that proved to be a thoroughly entertaining
                             th
match that didn’t disappoint the many fans who watched an extremely exciting
game that turned out to be a goal fest.
Frampton United got off to a fast start and they only took four minutes for Manolo
Espada to beat Tom Bradley from the edge of the box. On ten minutes the scores
were level when Frampton’s keeper Tom Kaye’s great save fell to Dillan Kerr who
placed the ball in the far corner of the net. Avonmouth then took the lead with a
Matt Groves header but the lead only lasted a short time when Will Hawes headed
in from a George Driver-Dickinson cross, making the score 2-2. The good football
continued with both sides having chances to score and in the 40 minute Frampton
                                                              th
failed to score when a cross into the box was headed back by Romaine Campbell
and Hawes’ shot came back off the Avonmouth bar and Freddie Porter’s shot was
cleared. Just before half time Avonmouth’s Kerr hit his shot just wide.

There was no let-up in the pace of the game in the second half with both sides
playing attacking football and it was Jono Willets who put the home side back in
the lead when he outpaced the Avonmouth defence and crossed the ball to Espada
who made no mistake with his back post volley. Avonmouth came back strongly
with a ball over the top, which was missed by the Frampton defence and Kyle
O’Donovan nipped in to beat Kaye for a 3-3 scoreline.
Frampton’s winner came in the 67 minute when an Espada cross beat the
                                       th
Avonmouth defence and Porter tapped in at the back post. Frampton continued to
attack and a Finn Blythe free kick came off the Avonmouth wall and cannoned off
       the bar.
Avonmouth kept on with their attacking game and came very close to equalising
but O’Donovan’s great effort came off the bar meaning the final score was 4-3 to
Frampton, cutting Avonmouth’s lead to two points at the top of the County League.
