Good afternoon and welcome to the South West Interiors Stadium for the last time
of the 2021/22 season. After two seasons curtailed due to COVID it is a relief that
we have successfully navigated fifty four matches in all competitions since the 14th
August last year, reached the first round of the FA Cup and secured the GFA Senior
Challenge Trophy and our final League position to be decided today. We have
enjoyed fantastic support at home and away and shared some memorable
celebrations, most memorable that wet night back on 26th October when we held
on to a slender one goal lead to beat Dover Athletic of the National League. All this
has been achieved by Paul Michael and his Management Team with a very lean
squad and the summer break will provide a long overdue rest period for some tired
and injured limbs to heal. Paul will take the opportunity to present his player
awards in the clubhouse after today’s match, this will include Supporter’s Player of
the Season and for those of you who haven’t voted online there is still chance to
vote today.
After today we look towards events over the summer and pulling together the pre-
season schedule of matches. As mentioned last week first up is the Good Times on
the Pitch series of events running between the 26th and 29th of May. Details are
available on line and later in this programme but there is plenty of variety on offer
to entertain the family. We are looking for car parking stewards so if you are
interested please get in touch via yatetownfootballclub@outlook.com or https://
twitter.com/YateTownFC . After that we host the Manchester United Legends on
Sunday 24th July 2022 (see further details later in the programme). Pre-season
fixtures will begin early in July ready to start the new season on Saturday 6th
August 2022.
Today’s mascots are from local youth side St Nicholas U8 boys. The team have just
finished their second season after a beginning in Division 3 of the Hannah Minor
League as u7. Impressively the team won all matches as u7 and despite moving up
a division have managed the same to repeat the achievement this season. Another
promotion will follow and they are looking forward to playing in the top division
next season. We welcome them to Yate Town and hope they enjoy the day.
And so to this afternoon’s visitors who we play for the third time having met in the
league and the FA Cup. In their last 12 outings The Boro have lost 4, drawn 4 and
won 4. In attack the threat comes from striker Daniel Wooden with 15 goals in 39
appearances, but despite a couple of results this is a team who are very difficult to
score against.
Regards,
Iain
