P. 3
Good afternoon and a very warm welcome to the
players, coaching team and supporters from Ashton
& Backwell United for this Toolstation Western
League Premier Division clash. Our committee
would also like to welcome today’s match officials,
referee Will Payne and his 2 assistants, Alex
Setchell & Dave Trevaskus.
It has been 3 weeks since we were last in action
here at Crown Fields, when we came away with a
thoroughly-deserved victory over Ilfracombe Town.
The lads were fast out of the traps, with 2 superb
goals from Will Sage (48 seconds) and a debut
senior goal for 17 year old Freddie Frazer on 10 minutes. Despite the
visitors pulling a goal back on 20 minutes, we had the better of the chances
in an entertaining game and ran out worthy 2-1 winners.
The following Tuesday saw a feisty Les Phillips League Cup quarter-final on
a foul evening at Brislington. We took the lead with a net-busting free kick
from Liban Ibrahim on 40 minutes, but were quickly pegged back by a
Brislington equaliser. With nothing to split the sides, it went straight to
penalties after 90 minutes of blood and thunder. Although Keynsham
converted their first 2 penalties, it was the hosts who won the shootout 3-2.
Despite subsequent away defeats to top 4 sides Bridgwater United and
Buckland Athletic, we go into today’s game full of confidence. We will still
have our last 4 League games to look forward to in front of our loyal fans,
starting today, which is the first match of a Crown Fields “triple header” over
the Easter weekend!
Tomorrow sees our Reserves take on Middlezoy Rovers in the Somerset
Senior Cup Semi-Final (kick-off 2pm), before Torpoint Athletic visit us on
Easter Monday, with an earlier kick-off time of 1pm.
Have a happy Easter, and thank you as always for your valued support. Up
the Ks!!
