End of Year Message
End o f Y e a r M e s s a g e
Saturday’s result was a disappointment for the work ethic and commitment put into
the game by the lads. Having taken a very early lead, we gave away a goal from a
corner soon after, which on another day would have been disallowed for a foul on
Martin Horsell. We then weathered a period of pressure from Poole and began
getting back into the game, only for an unforced error to allow Poole to score their
second goal on the stroke of half-time.
The second half was evenly matched with very few goal scoring opportunities
created by either side, until we conceded a third goal from another loose piece of
play. It was to our lad’s credit that we fought back and reduced the arrears with a
fine Rex Mannings goal, but we were unable to find a third before the end of the
game. Those errors on the day, together with a lack of quality with our final pass
and set piece delivery were contributing factors to the loss. These areas we will be
working on in training during the week to improve on for today’s game.
Following the mid-week games in the league we now find ourselves starting today’s
game in 19 place in the table. Not a position that we want to be in, but I am
th
confident that with the support of my management team and the players we have
WELCOME
to call on, we are capable of moving to a position of league safety by the end of
the season. We have to keep a positive approach and take any set backs in our
stride over the final 10 weeks of the season.
As always, your support and encouragement for the lads during today’s game and
for the rest of season to achieve our goal will be greatly appreciated!
Our visitors today are Hayes and Yeading United, who we welcome to Lodge Road.
We will be looking to reverse the result we sustained at The SkyEx Community
Stadium before Christmas, when we were well beaten on the night.
Last Saturday we included four new players in our match day squad.
Mike Baker who has signed from Frome Town,
Tommy Backwell and Callum Wood both on loan from Bristol City, and
Rex Mannings on loan from Bath City.
We have also extended the loan period of Leighton Thomas from Hungerford Town.
We wish all five the very best during their time with Yate Town and at the same
time say ‘bon voyage’ to Ross Staley, who decided to take up an offer to move and
play in New Zealand. Good luck fella!
Up the Bluebells!
