Sheffield & Hallamshire League (by Julian Barker)
Division One leaders AFC Bentley, playing their first game in three weeks, carried on from where
they left off as they recorded a 6-3 win over Socrates to take their tally from three away games to
date to 18 goals. Gemma Harte, relatively quiet in terms of goals scored this season, was back with a
bang as she netted five times whilst Becky Kendell, with a penalty, completed the scoring for Bentley.
Kris Gonzalez-Calvez, Katie Marshall and Sally Lowe were on target for Socrates who were in with a
chance of a point until they conceded two goals in the last few minutes. Sarah Bunting netted twice
before half time as Kiveton Park maintained second place with a 2-1 win at Brunsmeer Athletic.
Chesterfield (Women) moved up to third with Chloe Foster and Micky Hopkinson the scorers in
a 2-0 victory at Middlewood Rovers. Kirsten Vermeulen netted the game’s only goal as
Wakefield Res claimed the spoils at home to Rotherham Utd Whitehill.
With Handsworth Development’s home game against Dronfield Town Res being
abandoned with the hosts well on their way for what would have been a comfortable victory, it was
Mosborough who won 5-2 at Mexborough Athletic to move into top spot. Laura Kerr (2), Katie
Flanagan, Kelsey Hallam and Alice Maleham scored for Mosborough with Lydia Rae and Courtney
Wood replying for Mexborough. Mosborough, the division’s only unbeaten team, have 13 points
ahead of a trio of teams (Handsworth Development, Penistone Church and Swallownest) on 12
points. Penistone were 2-1 winners over bottom team Sheffield City for whom Natalie Dean scored,
the visitors still to register their first point. Swallownest, yet to play a home game (their home win
over Dronfield being an awarded home win) took their goal tally to 22 from 4 away games with a 5-3
win over Sheffield Utd Community Development who play their home games at Swallownest.
Brooke Chappell (2), Zoe Blythe, Kristi Boyes and Jasmine Toland were the scorers for Swallownest.
There is seemingly no stopping Division Three leaders Staveley Miners Welfare as they
extended their 100% start to seven games, winning 11-0 at home to Wickersley Youth. Carly
Rowlands netted seven times to take her tally for the season to 22 goals whilst Sammy Stokes (2),
Christy Long and Anya Taylor were the other Staveley scorers. Hannah Newbold bagged a hat-trick
for Eckington Belles who trailed three times in their draw with Mind Over Matter whose goals
came from Chloe Flume, Kerry Longstone and an opponent. Rachel Norsworthy, with four, and
Natalie Slack were on target as West End Terriers ran out 5-0 winners over Kiveton Park Res.
Somerset League
Pen Mill opened up a three point lead at the top of Division One with an 8-1 victory over
Portishead Town Res. Megan Gratton and Rebecca Roberts each bagged braces and they were
joined on the scoresheet by Leonie Hobbs, Amy Jones, Letisha Templer and Claudia Guida. Nicki
Robinson was on target for Banwell as they shared a 1-1 draw with third placed Ilminster Town
Res, whose markswoman was Lesley Spearing. Alisha Stuart meanwhile scored a hat-trick as
Paulton Rovers Res defeated Woodspring Women 4-1 to climb out of the bottom two.
The top three continue to pull away in Division Two North after all three recorded emphatic
victories on Sunday. Caitlin Stevens netted five times and Kelly Slocombe hit a hat-trick for leaders
Burnham Utd against Paulton Rovers Development whilst Daisy Goldsmith (2), Carra Seeley,
Isobel Simmons, Harriet Rogers, Mollie Harvey and Chelsea Organ were also on target. Burnham
still lead by a point from Highridge Utd who ran up a dozen against Ashton FC Women,
Stevie-Jay Froom and Louise Robbins each bagging hat-tricks along with Katie Gardiner (2), Ellie
Billitteri (2), Amy Brine and Louise Edwards. Berrow bounced back from defeat seven days earlier
to beat Hutton 7-0, Emily Moreton and Chloe
Williams each netting twice with Marie Frost, Bedfordshire & Hertfordshire
Amy Jones and Zoe Mizon adding the others.
