Today’s Game

Firstly, Cribbs FC would like to extend a very warm welcome to the visiting players, team
management, supporters and officials of Newent Town Football Club, together with the
match officials to this evening’s Emirates FA Cup – Extra Preliminary Round tie. We hope that
you enjoy your short time with us.
       Pre-Season Over
The 1st XI followed up their difficult match last Saturday at AFC Portchester with games
against two higher division sides and a local derby with Hallen AFC. The first game on
Tuesday saw us travel into Somerset to play Frome Town FC of the Southern League
(Division One South). At the outset, Cribbs sat in and absorbed pressure from their hosts
who were unlucky not to take the lead, but they were thwarted by our trialist goalkeeper.
The game turned on its head with 25 minutes gone, as we struck three goals in a golden
five-minute spell. Firstly, our corner routine led to Sam Oakley driving through a crowd of
players to score. The second goal was high quality. A pinpoint ball from Sam Hedges sent
Dan Webb in behind the Frome defence and he remained calm to curl the ball into the far
corner. Our third goal arrived as Sam Oakley pressured the Frome fullback into an error. The
ball broke to Jordan Yeo who drove it home. Unfortunately, we conceded just before half-
time. An excellent cross from the left was met forcefully by the Frome striker to make the
score 3-1 and this set the second half up nicely. In the second half, we did break with
purpose, but Frome dominated proceedings and despite going down to ten men late on,
they snatched a winning goal - The goals are here https://youtu.be/-LDsj0llXgY On
Wednesday, we stepped up the test even further as we took on Southern League Premier
Division side Yate Town. Yate showed their higher division quality with their two excellent
first half goals, the second coming from former Luton Town striker Stuart Fleetwood. After
Yate's domination of the first half, Cribbs came out with a couple of changes and a renewed
vigor. We crafted quite a lot of half chances and with better luck our strikers, Dan Webb and
Steve Murray, may have got on the scoresheet. It wasn't to be and Yate scored a couple
more well worked goals which can be seen here - https://youtu.be/mkbmBshsStU Saturday
saw our local Toolstation Western League rivals Hallen AFC step in at short notice for what
was an entertaining and competitive game. The early proceedings saw Hallen on the front
foot, but they were thwarted by our defensive line and numerous offsides ensued. Much like
the Frome match, we then had a golden spell of Cribbs finishes. The first goal came from
Matt Spiller's low cross into the box. it evaded all the attackers and defenders, reaching
marauding left back Lewis Waldy, who drove in from 12 yards. Our second goal, came from
the favourite of the 'Boys on the Hill', Jack McKenna. A long ball was headed on by skipper,
Jake Hodgson and this reached Dan Webb. His touch found Spiller who got in another good
cross, this reached McKenna who controlled the ball and struck in on the half volley past the
Hallen keeper. The Hallen keeper probably won't be happy with the third goal. Steve Murray
broke forward and was disappointed not to win a freekick. However, the ball rolled back to
the Hallen keeper, who then tried to set a quick attack in motion. Unfortunately for him, he
rolled the ball out to Waldy, who turned and lobbed him from 30 yards. - The goals from this

As always, get behind the boys, good luck to both sides and I look forward to seeing you all
       in the bar afterwards
