However, just as the home side were enjoying their best spell of the match, Spain hit
them with a sucker punch. Hermoso played a clever one-two with Putellas before firing a right
footed shot high into the net past Alexander from a tight angle.
Martinez Losa introduced Jennifer Beattie, Lucy Graham and Jane Ross as Scotland
continued to press for a goal but they could not find a way through as Spain saw out the match.
Scotland remain in second spot on the group on ten points, a point ahead of Hungary,
as they aim to secure a place in next year’s FIFA World Cup. Their next task in their quest to
qualify will be a trip to play fourth placed Ukraine on June 24th for their re-arranged qualifier.

Internatiomal duties, including Scotland’s World Cup qualifier against Spain, meant that all
of the action in the league over the weekend took place in SWPL 2.
Boroughmuir Thistle kept hold of second place in the table despite being held to a
1-1 draw by St Johnstone. Morgan Steedman put St Johnstone in front after twelve minutes,
with Elvie McLean earning Boroughmuir a share of the spoils midway through the second half.
Glasgow Women closed the gap on second place to a single point, with a game in
hand, thanks to a 3-0 victory away to Kilmarnock. The first half was goalless but just after
the hour, Cara Henderson gave Glasgow the lead and Sophie McGoldrick made it two just
three minutes later. McGoldrick then
