A five-goal second half blitz against Cyncoed Ladies has
helped Swansea City stay two points clear at the top of the
Orchard Welsh Premier Women's League.
The crucial moment of the match came a minute before
half time, when Laura Davies sent Swansea into the break with a
lead, and the Swans never looked back from that point. Tija
Richardson netted a double during the second half and an own
goal further increased the Swans' advantage, before Chloe
Chivers and Emma Beynon wrapped up a 6-0 victory with late strikes.
The two teams immediately below Swansea in the table came face to face and it
was Cardiff Met Women who won a well contested match 4-2 against
Abergavenny Women, to keep themselves two points off the pace albeit having
played a game more. Met took a two-goal lead in the first half thanks to Lucy Finch and
Shannon Evans, and they doubled this advantage after the interval with further strikes
from Sophie Hancocks and Emily Richards. Lyndsey Davies and Amy Williams reduced
the arrears for Abergavenny as they tried to stage a fightback but Met closed the game
out to increase the gap between the two teams to six points.
Cardiff City Women returned from Cascade Youth Club with a 2-0
victory, a result which takes them into the top half of the table and level on points with
third placed Abergavenny. Phoebie Poole put the Bluebirds in front after eighteen
minutes and Catherine Walsh sealed the points when she scored from the penalty spot,
midway through the second half.
Port Talbot Town complete a trio of teams level on points following their 3-1
success away to Aberystwyth Town.
