THOUGHTS FROM THE DUGOUT
Good afternoon everyone and welcome to the South West Interiors Stadium at Lodge Road for this
very special occasion. The day has come and we offer a warm welcome to Yeovil Town who are our
opposition for this Emirates FA Cup First Round tie. It’s the second time in the club’s history that
we’ve reached this round but the first time in all our history that we have hosted an FA Cup tie
beyond the qualifiers. A big welcome on behalf of all the players and staff to all our supporters for
today! Whether you are a stalwart who supports us game in, game out, whether you’re a casual
observer who helped us through the Dover tie or if you’re here for the very first time to support us,
thank you for your support it is invaluable to our team. Yeovil are a prestigious club with FA Cup
pedigree, a fantastic fan base & ambitions to return to the football league. Darren Sarll has put
together a talented, young and hungry side that plays at such a high intensity, the likes of which
Lodge Road may not have yet witnessed in a competitive match so we all know the challenge facing
our teachers, HGV drivers, accountants, Will writers, recruitment consultants and personal trainers
today.
I’d like to wish a warm welcome to Darren, the Yeovil staff, players, Directors & supporters, I hope
you have a safe journey to and from Yate today whilst enjoying the hospitality of our club.
Our performance on Tuesday evening was excellent, it’s been
great to see the reaction to our performance from supporters who
I think could really see the sheer effort and desire that the players
showed on Tuesday supported by no lack of quality. The whole
squad put in some performance and it wouldn’t be fair to pick
anyone out individually on the back of such an enjoyable
collective performance.
We are prepared to run harder than we have all season today,
we know we will need to and are ready to do it. We know we’ll
need to deal with an arial bombardment of long throws, corners
whipped under our crossbar and play around a press more
intense than we’ve yet encountered if we are to even stay in
the game today. We’ve done our work in advance as best
we could in the background since the Dover game but
since we played Tuesday we’ve had 1 session that
consisted of 45 minutes of video & meeting
followed by 1 hour training at Chipping Sodbury
school. Yeovil have had a full week to prepare
the game today, if it were a boxing match
you’d expect the knockout in the first round.
In team news at the time of writing there’s no
Nick Rhodes (hamstring) while Ollie Mehew
(hamstring) & Andy Lewis (groin) are huge
doubts. Everyone else is good to go.
One thing I can assure the supporters today is
that the staff and I have worked as hard as
possible to prepare the team and deliver the
detail in the time that we have had & I know the
players will give you and us everything they have
today. If we go out, we’ll go out with no regrets,
but who knows, get behind us from the off today,
give us your backing and you never know, there
might yet be a little more FA Cup magic left in Yate
Town this season.
C’mon the bluebells!
