          End of Year Message
    End o f Y e a r M e s s a g e
A belated Happy New Year to everyone, this being our first home game at Lodge
       Road in 2023!
A warm welcome to the management, staff, and players from Tiverton for today’s
       game.

This game being quickly followed on Wednesday evening 1 February when we
                                                             st
welcome the visit of Hendon to Lodge Road. The original fixture having been
       postponed in December.
Our last home game against Merthyr Town on Boxing Day was a good spectacle
and we gave an excellent account of ourselves, where barring another gifted goal
when we were 2-1 up, we would come away with a big home win against a very
       well drilled competitive side.
On 2 January we travelled to Dorchester, where we lost 0-2. The performance
levels throughout the game were ok and we were the better side for the lion-share,
however, after gifting the two goals to Dorchester, we were unable to turn our
greater possession into clear goal scoring chances. The lads needed to realise that
         WELCOME
we cannot continue to give teams a goal or two start per game and this was put
right in our game away at Gosport Borough.

The game at Gosport on 14 January, survived the rains, and we claimed our first
double of the season with a 1-0 victory, thanks to a Kyle Tooze second half goal.
The game itself will be best remembered for Martin Horsell heroics in saving two
penalties. These two penalty opportunities for Gosport, were in memory, the most
threatening that Yate came to conceding a goal, as the whole team were excellent
defensively. In the last 20 minutes we might have scored again with a little more
       composure and luck!

We will look to build on the Gosport performance beginning today and in the
coming weeks and see that as benchmark for the lads to repeat and improve upon.

       We have made three new signings since our last home game;

Brandon Oputeri - on loan from Bristol City
Ross Staley - on loan from Taunton; and
Leighton Thomas - on loan from Hungerford Town
We wish all three the best of luck during their time with Yate Town.
