THANK YOU GUYS.
The season begins. On one of the hottest days in history we travelled to
Minehead for our first game in league one. To be fair we played well in
tough conditions and dominated for large parts of the game. We had our
best chance in the first half when Thomas Smarts volley crashed against
the post from a Cam Main cross. The second half took the same path until
a mistake in midfield led to a breakaway goal from nowhere from our
hosts. We rallied and poured the pressure on, a shout for a penalty
turned down, a Sam Hemmings header from 4 yards out went just wide.
Minutes later Sam found himself in the same area and placed his shot
wide. With the score @1-0 to Minehead, unfortunately the game was
then abandoned for a serious injury to a Minehead player.
Our second game of the season was a very entertaining encounter with
Uphill Castle, a well drilled side with some standout players. It was Castle
who raced into a quick fire 2 goal lead we were shell shocked and to add
to that we lost 2 players to injury in the first 15 minutes.
To be fair our boys dusted themselves down and began to battle our way
back into the game, to the frustration of our opponents. They started to
crack, arguing with each other,we tested their keeper on several
occasions but he stood firm. 5 minutes before half time we were awarded
a free kick, Sam Hemmings stepped up curling the ball towards goal it
took a deflection off a defender to wrong foot the keeper 1-2 .
Second half we kept battling and pressing Uphill and started to win the
50/50 challenges all over the park, we were composed on the ball
passing around the opposition. Sam Hemmings, wide on the right cut
inside and curled a shot into the far corner 2-2. Having used our subs,
the next 20 mins was hard we dug in battled hard and came away with
a well-deserved point.
Today we travel down to Middlezoy Reserves for the 1st of 3 away games.
We are next at the Lancer Scott on Saturday sept. 10th 3pm V Westfield.
Enjoy your game
