The race for the Premier Division championship took a huge twist on Saturday as the leaders
going into the afternoon’s fixtures – Malvern Town – travelled to relegation-threatened
Thornbury Town and were handsomely beaten 3-0. The hosts fully deserved their surprise
success thanks to second half goals from Jack Smith, Rhys Hodgson and Harvey Pritchard that
helped their own survival targets.
Cribbs were able to take full advantage of Malvern’s slip and took over the leadership after
easing to a 4-0 victory over Fairford Town at The Lawns. David Duru continued his recent
good scoring record by giving Cribbs the lead shortly before half time and the win was wrapped
up after the break by Aysa Corrick, Ryan Crouch and Bailey Croome.
Third-placed Worcester Raiders are a long way behind but continued their chase by trouncing
lowly Chipping Sodbury Town 7-0 at Sixways Stadium. Louis Monaghan and Shay Willock
scored a brace apiece and there were singles for Isaac Cooper, Bailey Fuller and Jordan
Murphy.
Corsham Town are a long way back but due to their FA Vase exploits they have several games
in hand on the leaders and can still make their presence felt in the promotion race. However,
they cannot afford too many slip-ups like they had at the weekend when they went down by the
odd goal in five at home to Brimscombe & Thrupp. William Hawes 2 and Jonathan Welch
gave the visitors all three points whilst Kane Simpson and Dan Demkiv kept the home side
interested.
Corsham’s defeat was good news for Westfields and Roman Glass St. George but only the
Saints cashed in fully. They pipped Hereford Pegasus 1-0 at Oaklands Park thanks to Louis
Ward’s 39 -minute strike, but Westfields were held 1-1 by lowly Bradford Town who took the
th
lead on the half hour through Scott Baker. Harry Pitman fired the hosts level midway through
the second half, but they could not force a winner.
Jaydn Crosbie scored the only goal of the game for Mangotsfield United who maintained their
good recent form to beat Hereford Lads Club.
Substitute Charlie Powell scored twice after being introduced for Lydney Town at
Shrivenham to see them gain a vital 2-1 victory. Ashley Taylor netted for the home team.
Strugglers Tuffley Rovers salvaged a point from a home game against Wantage Town with a
goal from Yeshaya Lomotey after Josh Davis had netted for the visitors.
