P. 3
A good afternoon to you all. It feels a long time
since we last played a home game and after
taking in visits to Clevedon, Ilfracombe and
more recently Newquay in the FA Vase, it is
great to be back on our own patch! This
afternoon we welcome the players, officials
and supporters of our close neighbours and
friends from Cadbury Heath as we return to
league action. We also extend a warm welcome
to this afternoon’s referee Ryan Blackman and
his assistants Valentin Pomfret & Mark Oswin.
We have faired pretty well on our travels. A
good point at Clevedon after coming back from
2 down with 10 men was followed by a very
good performance at Ilfracombe, in which
although we lost our unbeaten run on the
road, had luck been with us it could have been
a different story. The Vase win at Newquay was
very satisfying and apt reward for the
supporters who made the long trip to cheer the boys on and for whom we are so
grateful - thank you,
Whist writing these notes I see that we have been further rewarded with another
excursion to Cornwall to face Liskeard Athletic in the next round of the FA Vase on
20 November. This is another challenge that we will embrace. Understandably there
has been a lot of talk around the grounds this season over the increased level of
travelling required to compete at this level and whilst it does, without doubt, put
additional pressures on clubs and even more so on the players, it is not without its
rewards and has certainly added a different dimension to things.
I must also take this opportunity to welcome Dan Cottle to the club. Dan is an
exciting attacking player who brings more experience of playing at a higher level
and has made an immediate impact in his two appearances to date. I am sure you
will enjoy watching him play here.
As usual we expect a tough test from the Heath this afternoon. I hope that you
enjoy it and thank you for coming.
