hit a hat-trick, Alice Clements and Nicola Duffy-Smith both contributed doubles and Alicia
Henderson-Thirsk joined them on the scoresheet. Redcar Athletic, who did not play, can also catch
Guisborough but have a vastly inferior goal difference. Poppleton - who will be Guisborough's final
opponents - will go into the game in good form after beating Richmond Town 7-0. Amarah Barker
scored a hat-trick for Poppleton along with Megan Dunn (2), Jenna Strain and Emam Raat.
       Sheffield & Hallamshire League
The League Cup and also Shield have been whittled down to the eight quarter-finalists in each with
the teams progressing from May’s mini groups in the respective competitions being as follows:
Cup: AFC Bentley, Barnsley FC Ladies, Dronfield Town, Oughtibridge Reserves, Rotherham United
Whitehill, Sheffield Wednesday Reserves, Socrates and Wakefield Trinity Development
Plate: Eckington Belles, Handsworth, Kiveton Park, Sheffield United Community Foundation,

In the Cup, Wakefield topped Group One with seven points from their three games. Holly and
Megan Brackenbury were on target in their 4-0 win over previously unbeaten Mosborough with
Dani Walker and Emily Wright the others on target for Wakefield. After drawing their opening pair
of games, Rotherham Utd Whitehill knew that anything less than victory would see them exit.
Even though they conceded four goals, both Hannah Jackson and Millie Simms netting twice for
hosts Sheffield Wednesday Development, Rotherham kept their side of the bargain with eight
goals of their own, four from Abi Shepherd along with Anaia Willoughby (2), Jess Broadhurst and
Gabrielle Green, to progress as runners-up.
There was late drama in Group Two where Oughtibridge Res were on the verge of going
out when trailing 2-1 at Handsworth Development. The in-play table had both on six points with
Handsworth enjoying a 7-6 scoring record to Oughtibridge’s 6-5. Cheryl Mawhood’s late equaliser to
earn a 2-2 draw meant Oughtibridge advanced as group winners with Handsworth having to settle for
third place. Chelsea Wall had given Oughtibridge the advantage at the interval, but Handsworth hit
back to lead 2-1 thanks to Jade Richards and Mae Spencer. The group’s other game saw Socrates
finish 4-0 winners over Mexborough Athletic to give them runners-up spot with six points. Sophie
Shemeld (2) Claire Attrill and Demi Cassinelli (pen) were on target for Socrates.
Barnsley FC Ladies won both their games in the three-team strong Group Three and their
11-1 victory away to SJR Worksop Development was the highest victory in May’s group games in
the Cup, with the dozen goals scored in the game matching the tally in the earlier mentioned Group
One encounter between Sheffield Wednesday Development and Rotherham United Whitehill. Both
Sadie Hooper and Amy Lyons need four times for Barnsley whose other three goals came from Ruby
Jex-Oldfield, Amy Lassu and Carla Whitehead (pen).
With Sheffield Wednesday Res, two wins from two in the three-team strong Group Four
already assured of finishing top, the position of runners-up was up for grabs and, not unexpectedly,
it was AFC Bentley who progressed, winning 4-1 at home to Wickersley Youth. Gemma Harte
bagged a hat-trick with Nicolle Jepson also on target for Bentley, while Beth Harper replied for
       Wickersley.
In the Plate, both Sheffield Utd Community Foundation and Worsbrough Bridge
Athletic advanced with seven points from three games in Group One. Caitlin Cooper (2), Madeline
Hall (2), Hannah Barden and Tia Needham were on target for United in their 6-0 victory over
Dronfield Town Development. Worsbrough also won by a six-goal margin and they had seven
different scorers in their game away to Kiveton Park Development. Vicki Agnew, Ellie Cooper,
Megan Davies, Beth Goldthorpe, Becky Hague, Emily Hooson and Dior Morton were on target for
Worsbrough with Gabby Christopher netting Kiveton’s consolation.
Handsworth recorded the highest score in May’s Plate games, winning 18-1 at newcomers
Millstone, who did have the consolation of scoring their first goal through Jodean Wadsworth.
Handsworth’s tally saw hat-tricks by both Abbey Kirwin and Sam Hallam. Ellie Hall and Jessica Lee
both netted twice, while there were singles from each of Rachel Allsop, Georgina Goldsmith, Kim
Hardman, Rebekah Hunt, Molly Johnson, Kasey Martin, Ellie Turner and Becky Walstow. The other
game in Group Two saw Sheffield Utd Community Foundation make it three wins from three
with Sarah Anderson, Shelley Offless and Sara Tyler scoring in a 3-1 win at home to Penistone
Church whose consolation came from Jessica Barrow.
