THOUGHTS FROM THE DUGOUT
Good afternoon everyone and welcome to The South West Interiors Stadium for
our third home Southern League Premier South match with Merthyr Town. May I
extend a warm welcome to Dean Clarke, Steve Williams, the rest of the staff, the
Merthyr players, officials and supporters, I hope you have a safe journey down the
A470, across the bridge and enjoy the hospitality of our club this afternoon.
May I also welcome all our Yate supporters to the ground today and thank
everyone who travelled to Kings Langley on Saturday. We are content with our
start, with two wins out of 2 on the road, we’re creating chances and conceding
very few chances which bodes well for the future. We still hope to be more clinical
with the chances we create and our final third entries but I believe this is coming.
The attitude of the whole squad was superb on Saturday and we need the same
again today.
In team news Joe Raynes has returned to Bath City
following his short loan, this served a purpose for us
as we had a number of injuries in midfield and Joe
performed well and helped us get off to a good
start this season. Jamie Adams is also missing this
weekend with a minor injury and should return
next week. Hopper is still 6 weeks away, Thuo
about a week, and we’ll just have to see how the
boys feel after Saturday.
After a season off, (which we all pretty much
had in the end) Dean has put together a
squad with a good blend of hungry,
talented young players alongside
experienced players who know the
club well. Merthyr’s huge
comprehensive win on Saturday
will give them confidence and
make today a very tough test in a
cross border derby that will no
doubt be competitive but played in
the right spirit.
Big game today, this is what it’s
about, wonderful surface here at
The South West Interiors @ Lodge
Road, hopefully a good crowd, two
good teams going at it, football is
back, in full swing and I love it! The
Martyrs will bring a big following on bank
holiday so we need all the support we can
get from you bluebells! Let’s get to work!
