Nick’s Notes. The Resies
SPONSORED BY THE 3 STALWARTS
MIKE, TONY DAVE
We would to thank 3 of our longest supporters Mike, Tony and
Dave for sponsoring Nick Smart, our reserve manager. Each year
the 3 of them make a donation to sponsor someone at the club.
This year they chose Smarty, THANK YOU GUYS.
Three games to update you with .
Saltford 1 Ashton Backwell 2
A messy affair this one on a tough bobbly pitch, not a great first
half with both teams struggling to work the respective keepers.
After 30 minutes Saltford were awarded a very dubious penalty,
the 18 year old referee struggling to make his own mind up went
with the shout from the players, much to the surprise of their
coach in the dugout . 1-0 half time.
The second 45 we edged it spending most of it in the opposition half. Sam Price equalizing with a
well taken goal . 70 minutes in a Sam Hemmings free kick wasn’t properly cleared and Sam Thomas
drove the ball home for 3 well deserved points.
Ashton Backwell 2 Welton Rovers 1
We deserved all three points today. With just 15 minutes played, Thomas Smart put Mason Hardidge
through on goal and lifted the ball over the out rushing keeper to put us 1 up. Then, against the run
of play, just before half time a long punt upfield led Rikki Sargent to head the ball past Ryan Clark in
the Stags goal and into the path of the Welton forward who couldn’t believe his luck 1-1 . Eventually
our dominance would be rewarded a Jason Radnedge shot was handled in the box and Thomas
Smart dispatched the resulting penalty, after Radnedge struck the woodwork from a free kick.
Ashton Backwell 0 Nailsea Tickenham 0
This was a rearranged fixture due to the season ending injury to Cordell Young. A very well contested
and well attended derby but again we lost one of our most dependable players in Joe Meredith who
was carried off with a suspected ACL injury we wish him well and a speedy recovery. That’s Joe, Paul
Uppington, Cameron Main and Cordell out with long term injuries.
On behalf of the whole club I would like to thank everyone who very generously donated into
Cordell’s fund. Cordell has been with us for 8 seasons, a talented, speedy winger sffered a broken
leg in 2 places and will be off work for quite a while. Its too early to say if we will see him in the
marron and blue of A & B again. The money raised will be very handy just before Xmas. Cordell has
asked me to pass on his thanks, he was over whelmed with the generosity of the supporters on the
night.
No Game today and next Saturday we have to travel to Yeovil for the 4th round of the Somerset cup.
Enjoy your game, see you soon. Smarty y
