Nick’s Notes. The Resies

Since our last report only one game to bring you due to postponements
and the league not managing to organise fixtures so leaving us with blank
Saturdays. Hence why we have 3-5 games in hand on the 4 teams above
        us.
We were home v Banwell, our previous encounter was rather lively
        ending in b a draw 1-1.
We fielded a different side to our previous encounter, with Lewis Smart,
Paul Uppington, Thomas Smart and Will Solari all starting having missed
the away trip. We started brightly and TJ Smart was quickest to react to
a Cordell Young pass lifting the ball over the out rushing keeper to settle
any nerves to put us 1 up. Then on 16 minutes a long ball forward was
misjudged by Lewis who had the sun directly in his eyes, Banwell’s
forward quickly pounced and after wrong footing Calum Biggins made the
scores level . On 27 minutes TJ latched on to a through ball from Will and
lifted the ball into the net for 2-1. On 30 minutes we were forced to make
a change with Cordell Young coming off with a quad injury and the
impressive Wilf Bond coming on as his replacement , got to feel sorry for
Cordell his first start since 13 of November last year.
                                    th
The second half was a mirror of the first with the Stags having most of
the possession and attacks. On 60 minutes the tireless Paul Uppington
got his reward for an excellent performance seeing his Crossfield shot
rifle into the top corner of the net. Then on 65 minutes Joel Bayliss
coming on for Uppington made it 4-1 with an excellent finish from 30
yards. Bayliss was causing havoc and looked certain for a brace until he
was fouled on the edge of the box. TJ Smart took the resulting freekick
bringing a fine save from the Banwell keeper.
That kept us 5 in the table, 4 points off the top with 5 games in hand.
                      th
So a lot to play for, 12 games to go, 8 here at the lancer Scott Stadium
        with 11 weeks left.
So next up today is a local derby away to Long Ashton, we will be hoping
to avenge a 3-0 defeat by our hosts last time round.

        UP THE STAGS
        Regards Smarty
