Metropolitan Police, who have yet to taste defeat in the Pitching In Southern League
Premier Division South, became the first team to take a point off leaders Hayes & Yeading
United on Saturday.
After a first half that the visitors had much the better of without scoring, it was they who
quickly broke the deadlock 4 minutes after half-time through Francis Amartey.
Ollie Robinson pulled the Met back on level terms just shy of the hour mark with a header.
The other teams in the top four all won though, with Gosport Borough in second spot after
a 3-2 verdict at Privett Park against a Tiverton Town side who have only won once to date.
But Boro had to come back from being a 23rd minute Matt Wright goal down to win. Theo
Widdrington equalised 11 minutes into the second half and then put his side in front from
the penalty spot 15 minutes from time after Tivvy keeper Lewis Williams had brought down
Joe Lea. Dan Wooden then added a third for the hosts in the 87th minute, but a goal in
stoppage time from Theo Simpson for the visitors made for a few nervy minutes at the end.
Farnborough are third after also winning by the odd goal in five at Merthyr Town, who
are finding it tough following their year in mothballs. Striker Elliott Buchanan, signed on
Friday on dual registration with Isthmian Leaguers Kingstonian, had a great start with his
new club by putting Boro in front after nine minutes at The Met Coaches Stadium in front of
523. But two goals in three minutes midway through the first half from Kerry Morgan and
then Elijah Phipps put the Martyrs in command. Five minutes after half-time, Buchanan
scored his second to pull the visitors level and then Merthyr had Adam Davies dismissed for
a second bookable offence on 65 minutes. Farnborough took advantage and scored what
proved to be the winner from John Oyenuga 16 minutes from time – and they could even
afford to miss a penalty!
Salisbury are fourth after recording a third successive league victory. The Whites beat
Swindon Supermarine 4-2 at the Raymond McEnhill Stadium. And they had to come back
from being a 19th minute Zac Kotwica goal down to win too. Ollie Knowles equalised 8
minutes later and Steve Claridge’s side were 4-1 up by half-time, thanks to a blitz of three
goals in five minutes, starting with Jack Ball`s effort in the 33rd minute.
Antonio Diaz and Sam Ashton added their names to the scoresheet. The second half calmed
down rather and the only goal came from ‘Marine`s Conor McDonagh in the 67th minute.
Wimborne Town now find themselves at the foot of the table after Kings Langley gained
their first league win of the campaign. Kings inflicted a 3-0 defeat on Poole Town at The
Orbital Fasteners Stadium and had the boost of an early 2nd minute Alfie Williams goal.
Poole’s hopes took a massive blow when they had Corby Moore dismissed with a straight red
card after just 35 minutes. Eventually, Arel Amu managed to double Kings’ lead and Jack
Wood added a third in the 89th minute.
Wimborne suffered a 3-1 defeat at Silver Jubilee Park to Hendon, who came back from
being a 28th minute Callum Chugg goal down to win. Liam Brooks grabbed the equaliser
four minutes into the second half and sub Kyen Nicholas then put the Greens ahead
with seven 15 minutes to go. Hamza Semakula made sure with a third for Lee
Allinson’s side with seven minutes remaining.
Hartley Wintney managed to record their second league win of the season with
a 3-1 success at The Optima Stadium against Weston-super-Mare in front of
604. Striker Ben Wright gave the Row a 13th minute lead that Scott Laird levelled
just before half-time. Josh Webb restored the visitors’ lead in the 72nd minute and
their first away success was assured when Reece Wylie added a third with 3
minutes to go.
Truro City gained a good 4-1 win at Plymouth Parkway’s Bolitho Park against
Chesham United. Rocky Neal gave the ‘hosts’ a great start with a goal inside the
opening four minutes and Tyler Harvey added a second eight minutes before half-
