WELCOME
Good afternoon and welcome to the first of two home games covered by this
programme. Today we welcome Gary Meakin and his squad, and all the club
officials and supporters from Beaconsfield Town. We hope you enjoy your afternoon
in the West Country and a safe trip home. On Tuesday evening we welcome
Winchester City for our re-arranged match with Craig Davis and his squad making
the unenviable mid-week journey. With both clubs sitting above us, but within
touching distance, we look forward to some entertaining football.
This week we bid farewell to Bristol City loanee Prince Henry who has been recalled
by his club. Prince wore the No. 9 shirt 13 times for the Bluebells (in addition twice
coming off the bench). In that time he scored three times most memorable his
single handed robbery of the Tivvy defence in the FA Cup which kick started that
victory. We thank him for his work with us and wish him the very best in his
professional career.
First to look at today’s opposition. The Rams sit mid table with three wins from their
eleven league fixtures four points ahead of Yate but having played an extra game.
Having started their league campaign strongly with wins over Parkway and Met
Police the Rams hit a sticky patch with a number of very credible draws before FA
competitions interrupted. Like Yate they have exited the FA Cup and following this
re-commenced the league competition with four points from their last five [league]
fixtures. Their last competitive match was against Hartley Wintney (who sit just
below Yate) in the FA Trophy; the game was level 2-2 at the final whistle with the
Rams securing a place in the next round winning on penalties. Ones to watch are
brothers Aaron and Nathan Minhas, both have started 12 times so far (in all
competitions) and scored 4 and 9 goals respectively.
Looking slightly further ahead we welcome Winchester City for an important match
against another one of our league table neighbours. Like us Winchester (at the time
of writing) only have two victories but still have a game in hand over us. The
Citizens were knocked out of the FA Cup with a challenging draw against
Weymouth but countered this with a very impressive 2-0 victory over Poole Town.
League form is mixed with their league victories coming over North Leigh and most
recently Hartley Wintney last Saturday. At the time of writing Winchester were due
to host Chesham before travelling to Lodge Road but all to play for regardless of
how today’s results go. Silvano Obeng and Warren Bentley lead the goal scorers
with 5 and 4 goals respectively. Max Smith in midfield is not far behind with 4.
C’mon you #Bluebells………….
