Nick’s Notes. The Resies
Since our last game on 27 December which was almost 3 weeks without
a game we had a tough task of going to promotion rivals Cheddar. We
knew was going to be a difficult game due to the state of the pitch
historically this time of year. Both sides battled away. Cheddar to be fair
had the better chances with Joel Manning in goal pulling off a couple of
good saves and the Ashton & Backwell back four defending resolutely
putting their bodies on the line and working hard to secure a point. Which
I was very happy with due to the lack of playing time the players had.
This day will be remembered as Sam Thomas’ last game in the Ashton
& Backwell colours as he has moved on to play for Mangotsfield in the
Southern League and we wish him all the best from all in the reserves.
Alongside Sam was the industrious Will Solari who didn’t stop running
and was a real driving force for us in midfield. Another stand out for me
was the re-emergence of Jordan Bishop getting back to his best form.
Overall it was a great team performance and the lads did themselves very
proud. This was the first of five very difficult games with Radstock,
Glastonbury and Imperial away, then Peasedown at home. With
promotion a very realistic target, I have expressed to the lads that every
game is a cup final now for us until the end of the season. Our next home
game is 12 th Febuary v Peasedown. Enyoy your game.
