MIDWEEK REVIEW

Hayes & Yeading United, Taunton Town, Beaconsfield Town and Weston-super-Mare all
made it six points from their opening two games of the 2021/22 Pitching-In Southern Football League
Premier Division South season on Tuesday night.
In Hayes & Yeading’s case, it was an emphatic and impressive 6-2 victory at Silver Jubilee Park
against a Hendon side who had their opener. And that after the Greens had led 2-0 with goals in the
10th and 12th minutes from Jayden Clarke and Christian Smith respectively! The visitors were level at
the break though through Hassan Jalloh after 28 minutes and the immensely impressive Moses
Emmanuel on 43 minutes. Five minutes after the interval, Emmanuel doubled his and Hayes &
Yeading`s lead from the penalty spot and 17 minutes later, Francis Amartey made it 4-2. Hendon were
dealt a blow when Tommy Smith had to leave the field with an injury after Lee Allinson had made all his
substitutions, and United took full advantage, adding two more against the ten-men, with Emmanuel
bagging both in the 89th and 90th minutes to take his personal tally to four.
A crowd of 526 at The Cygnet Health Care Stadium saw Taunton make it two wins from two games
with a 2-1 success against a Dorchester Town side yet to get off the mark.
However, it could have been so different as the Magpies were awarded a penalty four minutes into
stoppage time, only for summer signing Tom Purrington to fire his spot-kick high over the bar. Earlier,
Sam Bayston had given the visitors an 11th-minute lead that Ollie Chamberlain cancelled out within
three minutes. And just seconds after the restart, Chamberlain pounced again to put the Peacocks in
front – a lead that eventually held on to – just!
Beaconsfield made it two from two with a 1-0 verdict at Kings Langley, who have lost their opening
matches after returning to the south section. A goal from Ollie McCoy 20 minutes from time saw the
       Rams to victory.
A terrific crowd of 791 at the Optima Stadium saw Weston make it successive wins, beating Merthyr
Town 3-1. A powerful Sam Avery header just before half-time gave the Seagulls the lead. And within a
minute of the second half kicking-off, Dayle Grubb doubled the home side`s lead. However, within two
minutes, Merthyr were back in the game when Cameron Keetch pulled one back. But on 70 minutes, a
Scott Laird far post header from a corner made it 3-1 to the Seagulls – a lead they never relinquished.
First wins came on Tuesday for Farnborough, Walton Casuals, Poole Town, Harrow Borough and
       Truro City.
Spencer Day`s Boro side triumphed 3-1 at the Meadow against a Chesham United side whose Zak
Joseph put them in front after 12 minutes. The visitors responded within five minutes through Nic
Ciardini to leave the teams all square at the break. Ten minutes after the restart, Seth Owens gave Boro
the lead, and then in stoppage time, Louie Page made the points safe with a third.
Like Farnborough, Walton Casuals had drawn their opening game and followed that with a hard-
fought 1-0 win at the Elmbridge Community Stadium against a Gosport Borough side who had won
their first game. Adam Liddle, signed from Chelmsford City in the summer, grabbed the only goal of the
       game four minutes after half-time.
Harrow are off the mark after a fine 3-0 win at a Hartley Wintney outfit who had drawn their opener.
But it came at a cost for Boro who lost Dave Taylor in the first half to what was later diagnosed as a
broken knee cap. Hugely disappointing for the lad as he has only just returned after nine months out
through injury. By that time the visitors were already two-up through an early 3rd minute James
Ewington effort and a second for the striker 11 minutes later. Ewington completed his hat-trick from the
spot on the hour-mark and the Row`s miserable night was complete when Sam Argent`s 81st-minute
       spot-kick sailed over the crossbar!
Fancied Truro recovered from their opening day loss to beat another team expected to feature in the
promotion race, Salisbury, 3-1 at the Raymond McEnhill Stadium. An excellent crowd of 642 saw a
goalless opening 45 minutes which saw the home side go down to ten-men when Sam Roberts was
dismissed for denying a goalscoring opportunity. Four minutes after the break, a re-jigged Salisbury side
took the lead through Manny Odubade. But Rocky Neal levelled just past the hour-mark and then a
Charlie Kennedy own goal three minutes later gave the White Tigers a lead they added to a couple of
minutes from time through Will Dean.
At the Webbswood Stadium, Swindon Supermarine gained their first point with a 1-1 draw against a
Metropolitan Police outfit who also shared the points in their opener.
It was summer signing Liam Ferdinand who gave the Met a 28th-minute lead that was eventually
cancelled out eight minutes from time by George Dowling.
Wimborne Town also got themselves off nil points after sharing a 0-0 draw with a Yate Town side
who had won their opening encounter. Yate though were frustrated at The South West Interiors Stadium
by a Magpies side whose new goalkeeper Billy Terrell was in inspired form.
