A warm welcome to all of our supporters this afternoon and especially
to the players, management, directors and supporters of Hayes &
Yeading United, who today travel from London to visit the South West
Interiors Stadium. We hope you enjoy our visit and trust that
everyone has a safe trip home this evening. The last time United
visited Lodge Road they travelled back to London with all three points
following a 2-0 victory back in February 2020.
Yate Town’s season got off to the perfect start last weekend in North
London, where they beat Harrow Borough 2-1. Ricardo Rees fired
the Bluebells ahead on the hour mark, and then struck again 12
minutes later to restore Yate’s lead following a reply from Harrow’s
David Taylor.
Onto midweek and it was another positive performance from Paul
Michael’s side on Tuesday night against Wimborne Town, but a
winning goal proved to be elusive. There was an early opening for
Wimborne when Harry Morgan shot wide but that apart it was the
home side who dominated for long spells of the first half and certainly
created the best opportunities.
Joe Tumelty had a header cleared away, Ricardo Rees' back-heeled
effort was scrambled off the line and Tumelty had a drive blocked
near the post after some neat inter-passing in the box.
David Sims-Burgess fired over the angle of the post and bar late in
the first period and Tumelty again was just off target with a curling
shot after he had cut in from the right-hand side.
There was much more defensive work required by the home side
after the break however as the visitors went on the offensive right
from the re-start.
Andy Hannah needed to touch over a long range blast from Regan
Mason, Lewis Beale headed over following a cross and a Dan
Strugnell effort from a free kick also tested the Yate goalkeeper.
The more clear cut chances came at the other end though and the
points were there for the taking. Rees pulled his low shot wide when
clean through on goal and then hit the post moments later before
Ollie Mehew's mazy run into the box seemed certain to produce the
winner until the ball ended up going the wrong side of the upright.
However, the boss was full of praise for his players’ performance, and
the Bluebells remain unbeaten after their first two games.
