       Huddersfield win back County Cup
Huddersfield Town regained the Sheffield &
       Hallamshire County Women’s Cup with a 5-0
victory over Barnsley at the Eco-Power
       Stadium, Doncaster Rovers FC.
This was the fifth successive final to
feature this pairing with both teams having
recorded two wins apiece out of the previous
       four. (Barnsley 2016, Huddersfield 2017,
Huddersfield 2018 and then Barnsley 2019
before a hiatus of two seasons caused by
       Covid)
Barnsley were looking good to retain the trophy in 2020 and were also strong
favourites to win promotion to the FAWNL Northern
       Premier Division. However, circumstances beyond
their control dictated otherwise. Huddersfield went
into the game as firm favourites, though the final
score was a bit harsh on Barnsley.
Town were 2-0 up at the interval, Serena
Fletcher and Brittany Sanderson (a former Barnsley
player) the scorers. It was another former Barnsley
player, Laura Elford, who stole the honours in the
second half as she bagged a hat-trick, including two
late goals to seal the biggest winning margin in the
clashes between the two teams. Elford's first goal was
voted as Town's goal of the month for April by the
management and players. Barnsley goalkeeper Serena Clarke claims
