Today’s Game
Firstly, Cribbs FC would like to extend a very warm welcome to the
visiting players, team management, supporters, and officials of
Lydney Town, together with the match officials. We hope that you
enjoy your visit to the Lawns.
Match Reports
It has been a little while since the last home game on 22 January
when we lost 2-0 to a very strong Westbury United outfit.
The lads have played three away matches, two in the league and
one in the GFA tournament.
The first was a local derby under Friday night lights at Hallen
where the entertainment was somewhat ruined by the strong
wind.
Hallen got into some promising positions whilst playing with the
wind in the first half but did not profit from them. Into the strong
breeze, we relied on the talents of swift wide man Nick Jones, and
he was unlucky not to put us in the lead before the break.
The majority of the second half saw us use the wind to our
advantage, but without turning positional dominance into goals.
Ace scorer Steve Murray broke the deadlock in the 70th minute as
he struck home from the edge of the box. Hallen came out of their
shell and had chances to equalise before the end, but we held on
for the win.
The following Tuesday took us over the Severn Bridge to play
today’s opponents in the GFA Challenge Trophy. Luffers made 10
changes from the Saturday line-up as he went with a very
youthful line-up. The youngsters rose to the task, creating many
chances. However, Lydney were clinical and punished our
defensive errors to win two nil.
I wasn’t around to see last weekend’s win over at Shrivenham but
have been told that we took full advantage of a strong first half
wind and slope to lead five-nil at half-time. We were largely
unthreatened in the second period and no further goals in the
match saw us secure an easy win.
This Afternoon’s Opponents
We have visited Lydney twice this season and returned as losers
on both occasions (the second described above).
Our first visit was back at the beginning of November and Lydney
ran out deserving 3-2 victors after a late fight-back saw goals
from Steve Murray and Ross McErlain make for a more flattering
score line.
Lydney are clearly a very solid opponent, and we will need to be
at our best to finally get a victory against them.
As always, get behind the boys!!! UTC
