Hellenic League Review…..
The race for a top two finish in the Premier Division is still wide open for up to nine clubs.
Bishops Cleeve sport a nine-point lead at the top after Bradford Town reduced the gap
by three points by winning 2-0 at Thornbury Town with goals coming from Jacob Brown
and Charlie Walton.
However, only four points separates the next eight clubs. Two points behind Bradford are
Cribbs who returned to the top three places following their 2-0 home win over Lydney
Town at the Lawns. George Kellow notched both goals.
Just two points divides Cribbs in third place to Westfields in ninth spot. The Herefordshire
side had a single goal from Josh Hunt to thank for their win at lowly Tuffley Rovers.
Malvern Town secured a vital 2-0 home win over Westbury United thanks to Joe Bates
and Kyonn Evans, but Tuesday evening’s 3-2 win over Chipping Sodbury Town has
propelled Westbury into fourth place in the table.
The quartet with 58 points along with Westbury and Malvern is made up by Brimscombe
& Thrupp whose visit to leaders Bishops Cleeve was postponed, and Longlevens, 2-1
winners against Roman Glass St. George. Joey Haswell and James Sunley were on target
for the Gloucester-based team, whilst Saints hit back through Dawid Regula.
Corsham Town lie just one points further behind alongside Westfields after a similar 2-1
home victory against Hereford Lads Club. Thomas Bendall gave Hereford the lead but this
was quickly wiped out by Gary Higdon and Sean Keet sealed the three points in time added-
on at the end of the game.
At the bottom end of the table, only Hallen avoided defeat. They fought back from two
goals down to share a 2-2 draw with Royal Wootton Bassett Town at Hallen Centre. John
Mills and Tom Ouldridge netted within a minute of each other just before half time to put the
Wiltshire outfit in command, however, Troy Simpson gave the home side hope shortly after
the break and Jordan Ricketts fired home a penalty with nine minutes remaining to give
Hallen a share of the spoils.
Adrian Harvey grabbed a last-gasp winner for Chipping Sodbury Town at home to
Shrivenham and further boosted their survival hopes.
The overnight top two teams Studley and Worcester Raiders clashed at the weekend and
fought out a 2-2 draw. Daniel Carter and Dale Edwards were the marksmen for Studley but
Isaac Cooper and Kai Mahon earned Worcester a share of the points.
The draw allowed Clanfield 85 the opportunity to over haul both teams and steal the top
spot by drubbing bottom of the table Bourton Rovers 6-0, their goals coming from Jozef
Fullerton, Josh Gibbens, Cameron Pirie, George Seacole, Connor Duggan and an own goal.
Clanfield’s position was enhanced as Cheltenham Saracens did not play and Milton
United were held to a 1-1 draw by Shortwood United. Ollie Nadin and Alex Barrett
swapped goals form their respective teams.
Two goals from James Baldwin and one from Aiden Clark gave Pershore Town a 3-1 victory
at Cirencester Town Development to keep their promotion hopes alive. Aiden Bennett
was on target for the home side.
FC Stratford have fallen down the table after a goal less draw with Abingdon United
mainly due to fast-rising Hereford Pegasus who won convincingly at Malmesbury
Victoria 4-0 thanks to Cawley Cox, Connor Davies-Austin, Kyle Panniers and Toby Wildig.
In the other game played this week, Moreton Rangers came out on top 4-2 at home to
Littleton. Doug Wallace scored twice, James Goodwin and Harrison Smith for Moreton
while Delami Bradshaw-Hall and Olive Redhead replied for Littleton. .
