Hellenic League Review…..
Promotion rivals Malvern Town and Cribbs provided the match of the day on
Saturday with the Bristol club edging the final outcome by the odd goal in nine. Joe
Bates gave Malvern an early lad in the sixth minute but within two minutes Steve
Murray had levelled for Cribbs. Jack Fillingham put Cribbs ahead for the first time
on 38 minutes, but the home side brought the scores level for half time through
Matt Turner. Once again Cribbs went ahead shortly after the break when Lewis
Hedges netted, however two goals in five minutes midway through the second half
from Harry Clark appeared to have swung the game into Malvern’s favour. The
game was not over, and Nick Jones equalized for Cribbs with nine minutes
remaining, and as the game entered time added-on, Ross McErlain fired home
Cribbs fifth goal and what proved to be the winner!
Bradford Town demolished Tuffley Rovers 7-1 to maintain their own title
challenge. George Box hit a treble, Jacob Brown a brace and there was one each
from Ross Lye and Charlie Walton to complete their tally. Jacob Geddes grabbed a
consolation goal for Tuffley.
Westfields continued their rise with a 3-1 home win over Royal Wootton
Bassett Town thanks to goals from Jamie Bird, Josh Hunt and Cawley Cox. John
Mills was the marksman for Town.
Corsham Town and Longlevens recorded big away wins to remain fourth and
fifth respectively. Corsham raced to a 5-1 win at Shrivenham thanks to Ryan Bath,
Leon Greenland, Gary Higdon, Matt Jenkins and Matt Morris. Johnny Devoile replied
for the hosts. Longlevens were 4-1 winners at Chipping Athletic
ReservesSodbury Town with all the goals coming after the break. Rudi McKinnon
gave them the lead within 15 seconds of the second half beginning and Bradley
Martin doubled the lead two minutes later. McKinnon and Ethan Dunbar added
further goals for the visitors whist Josh Pandolfino scored a consolation goal for
Sodbury.
Relegation-threatened Hallen left Westbury United with a point from a 3-3 draw
despite trailing 2-0 and 3-1 at one point of the game. Callum Demkiv 2 and Sam
Jordan found the net for Westbury, but goals from Jordan Ricketts 2 and Ben Jones
for Hallen saw the points shared.
Lydney Town gave their own survival hopes a boost with a single goal victory at
Roman Glass St. George, and Thornbury Town were 2-0 victors over
Brimscombe & Thrupp who, in a very tight table, have slipped to ninth place.
Jordan Burke and Adam Newbury gave Hereford Lads Club a 2-o success at
home to Fairford Town.
On Sunday, leaders Bishops Cleeve responded to their rivals’ wins by beating
Calne Town 2-0 with goals from Jordan Annear and Blaine Waugh. They restored
their nine-point lead with the victory.
