A Good Point at Buckland
Saturday 18th December 2021
Buckland Athle c 1 Brislington 1 ATT 166
Scorer - Jordan Scadding
We made our 2nd trip down the M5 in 7 days to face Buckland Athle c following the
encouraging draw at Ilfracombe last week.
Lewis Dunn, Ash Kington, Josh Brace, James Dunn & Conner Bryant we’re unavailable.
Captain Sco Lewis was back from injury. George Jones went into midfield with Asa White
& James Auger up top.
The game started as a very scrappy affair with both sides struggling to impose themselves
on the game. Our back 4 was dealing comfortably with anything the home side created.
Niggly fouls were creeping in to the game causing no fluency in the game.
It took 29mins for any chance of note. A Buckland player was le unmarked at the back
post but his effort was well saved by Dorrington.
From the goal kick Jordan Scadding found space on the le . He then sent the cross in. The
ball hit a Buckland defender and ended up in the net to make it 1-0.
The home side were s ll finding it hard to get a decent foothold in the game but this was
probably due to work rate we were pu ng in.
HT 0-1
We knew we would have to con nue to work hard to get something out of the game.
2 minutes a er the restart we had a glorious opportunity to increase the lead good work
by Scadds on the le enabled him to put a decent cross in to the back post to find Jones
completely unmarked. It seemed he only had to hit the target but somehow managed to
put the effort over.
On 55mins a through ball was got to first by White just before the home keeper he
managed to get a shot off but the ball hit the keeper in the face and ended up with both
players coming together. And the keeper making a bit of a meal of it. We were astonished
to see the Ref pull out and show a White his 2nd yellow card and being sent off.
We knew this would be a tough ask to play out 35mins with 10 men leaving Auger up top
on his own.
On 62 mins the home side found an equaliser. We didn’t close down around the box and a
Buckland player found space on the edge and put the ball in the corner giving Dorrington
no chance to make it 1-1
We were s ll working hard to frustrate the home side and on 73mins Scadds got the be er
of the home defence but his goal bound shot took a deflec on to go for a corner.
The home side were star ng create more but a combina on of poor finishing & our
defence meant they were unable to find a winner.
FT 1-1
A hard working performance by the whole side especially when we’re down to 10 men. It
shows how together this squad can be when up against it.
We start 2022 with an away game to Keynsham on Monday 3rd January KO 3pm.
Finally from everyone at Brislington we wish you all a Happy Christmas.
