P. 3
Today’s Game
Firstly, Cribbs FC would like to extend a very warm welcome to the visiting players,
team management, supporters and officials of Royal Wootton Bassett for their first
ever match at our ground, together with the match officials. We hope that you
enjoy your visit to the Lawns.
Match Reports
Cribbs started their Boxing Day fixture the better of the two sides and the first
chance to take the lead came in the fourth minute of the game, Jack Fillingham
forcing the Chipping Sodbury keeper into a very good save. Cribbs’ continued
persistence paid dividends as they took the lead in the 20th minute. Steve Murray
sliding past the keeper following good build up play in the middle of the park.
The second half was a much less open affair, with neither team being able to create
many clear-cut chances at all. After absorbing late pressure Cribbs held on for a
one-nil win.
We were defeated in our first game of 2022 at the hands of top of the league
Bishops Cleeve in a 7-goal thriller.
The league leaders took an early lead, but the lads soon battled back with goals
from Murray and Ryan Radford. Sadly, slack defending saw Cleeve score two
quickfire goals before half-time.
Both sides returned for the second half a man down and the lead extended after a
misplaced pass by keeper Liam Kingston was intercepted and passed to Jordan
Annear to score the fourth. The lads continued to press, and Ali Boyer stole in for
a headed goal to make it 4-3.
Last Friday evening we made the short journey to local rivals Roman Glass St
George for what proved to be a close encounter.
Glass had the better of the first half and held a one goal lead at the breakthrough
Loui Ward’s strike from a corner on our left.
Our second half performance was improved, and Jack Fillingham came close to his
first Cribbs goal as the Glass defender made a last-ditch clearance from his flicked
effort.
Unfortunately, our defensive frailty let us down again as we gifted Dawid Regula
their second goal. As ever, heads did not drop, Jack won a penalty and Ross
McErlain converted for a 2-1 final score line.
This Evening’s Opponents
We visited Royal Wootton Bassett’s impressive facilities in November and put in our
best performance of recent times.
Our scoring opened with a powerful Sonny Harnett-Balkwill header, swiftly followed
by a well-placed George Kellow strike for the second. Despite looking comfortable,
a rather soft handball decision put Bassett back in the match as they converted the
penalty. Fortunately, the team continued to play on the front foot, with Steve
Murray laying on a goal for Ryan Radford and skipper Jake Hodgson volleying home
a fourth.
Bassett have been in decent form since they met us, winning four of the eight
games played so this is sure to be another tough match as we try to return to
winning ways.
As always, get behind the boys!!! UTC
