Non-League football has seen a real boom in crowds in recent seasons.
Whether it’s the product of post-covid where many fans discovered their
local club or the increasing turn-off from VAR-powered top-level football,
it’s been heartening to see such good a endances.
And it was no different on Boxing Day and New Year’s Day – as well as in
between – this season.

On Boxing Day in the Na onal League, 7,909 were at Roots Hall as
Southend United ushered in a new era.
Contracts were exchanged on the takeover led by Australian businessman
Jus n Rees just a few days earlier. But Barnet spoilt the party with a 2-0 win.
Aldershot Town welcomed their biggest crowd for 15 years for the local
derby with Woking.
The travelling Cards made up 902 of the 5,970 crowd for the tense 0-0
encounter.
Yeovil Town set a new Na onal League South high again, the 6,301 for their
win over Taunton Town surpassing the 6,289 for October’s midweek derby
with Weymouth.
The next highest at Step 2 came in the Na onal League North where 4,468
watched on as Scunthorpe United beat Farsley Cel c 2-0.
