Ellesmere Port Town emerged as 3-2 winners against Ashville Youth Ladies in Sunday’s
title decider in the Cheshire Women’s League Championship West division.
Although the various stoppages during the campaign limited the season to just five
league games, playing each other once, the division was always a close one at the top with
three teams in contention at one stage.
Ellesmere Port opened up their season back in October and defeated Whitchurch
Alport 8-0 in their opening match, before sharing a 2-2 draw with Brookvale Utd the
       following week.
However, they had to wait exactly six months before playing their next league match
but made up for lost time on their return, winning 4-0 away to Frodsham Juniors. This was
followed by a twelve-goal victory against Malpas Women which set them up for the title
showdown against Ashville Youth, who had won their previous four games and went into
the match needing to avoid defeat to be crowned Champions, but it was Ellesmere Port
who took the honours with a 3-2 victory. “For the neutral, it was an unbelievable end-to-
end game with passion, desire and some great football all round,” Goalkeeping coach Sam
       Phillips told Women’s Soccer Scene.
Ellesmere Port Town are managed by Nigel Basnett, with Luke Jones as First Team
Coach and Sam Phillips undertaking the roles of Goalkeeping Coach and Physio. They play
their home matches at Whitby Sports & Social Club in Ellesmere Port.
The team is captained by Lydia Ward and their leading goalscorer is Chelsey Hodgin
with ten to her name, including a six-goal haul in their penultimate match against Malpas.
