Northern Premier Division
Wolverhampton Wanderers took another step
towards the title when they won 5-0 away to
Sheffield FC. Katie Johnson, Amber Hughes, Beth
Merrick, Jade Cross and Tammi George all scored for Wolves to keep them firmly on
course.
Derby County held on to second place after beating local rivals Nottingham
Forest 1-0. Sherry McCue scored the only goal of the game for the Ewe Rams in the
seventeenth minute.
Fylde Women stay a single point behind Derby in third, after a first half goal from
Laura Merrin earned them a 1-0 victory away to Hull City.
Huddersfield Town remain in the running for the runners-up spot, keeping
those hopes alive when they defeated West Bromwich Albion 3-0. Brittany Sanderson
opened the scoring on the half hour and Katie Stanley made it two shortly after half time,
before Sanderson wrapped up the win with her second goal late on.
Burnley FC Women returned to winning ways with a 3-1 victory over Stoke
City. Elizabeth Hamer, Evie Priestley and Millie Ravening all scored a goal apiece for the
Clarets, with Callan Barber replying from the penalty spot.
The battle to keep out of the bottom three took another twist on Sunday, with
Loughborough Lightning winning 3-1 at Middlesbrough and climbing above them
in the table. Katie Middleton marked her debut for Loughborough by scoring twice and
Laura Steele was also on target, whilst 'Boro's consolation came from Sophie Curle.
On Wednesday night, Laura Elford hit a hat-trick as Huddersfield Town ran out 5-1
winners away to Fylde Women. Katie Stanley and Paige Crossman added the other goals,
with Mel Bartley replying. The result, whilst boosting Huddersfield's chances of a top two
finish, means that Wolves require two wins from their final five matches to be confirmed
as Champions.
Southern Premier Division
Ipswich Town kept up the pressure at the top of the table with a 2-0 victory against
Plymouth Argyle. Despite the long, long journey, the visitors went into the match in
good form but goals from Eva Hubbard and Eloise King gave the Tractor Girls three
important points.
With Oxford Utd not having a game, Southampton FC Women took the
chance to move above them into second place by winning 2-0 at Gillingham. Both goals
came in the first half, Lucia Kendall putting Southampton in front and Alisha Ware adding
the second goal.
Portsmouth staged a second half comeback to win 3-2 at Keynsham Town and
deal a savage blow to the home side's survival hopes. Laura Williams gave Keynsham a
first minute lead and Kerry Bartlett made it two from the penalty spot but after the break,
Shannon Albuery gave Pompey hope by pulling a goal back and a quickfire brace from
Cherelle Khassal gave them what had seemed an unlikely win.
Cardiff City Ladies meanwhile gave their own survival chances a huge boost
with a 5-0 victory away to Hounslow Women. Cori Williams scored a hat-trick for the
South Wales side, to add to Ellie Sargent's earlier double.
Milton Keynes Dons also picked up three valuable points with a 3-1 success at
Chichester & Selsey. Cherrelle Albert was on target twice for the Dons along with Sofia
Stovold, whilst Chi's consolation was scored by Natasha Wild.
