The race for the Pitching-In Southern League Premier Division South title continues to be tight and
looks like going right to the wire after Saturday’s results.
Metropolitan Police lost ground after losing 2-1 at Imber Court to second-placed Taunton Town,
who remain level on points with leaders Hayes & Yeading United, who won 4-0 at the SKYex
Community Stadium to a Yate Town side whose own top five hopes took a massive blow.
The Met are four points behind the leaders now after defeat against the Peacocks. After a goalless
opening 45 minutes, it was the home side who broke the deadlock after 69 minutes with a Louis Birch
header. But Toby Holmes equalised on 75 minutes and five minutes later, Joe Budd put Taunton in front
– a lead they held on to for three crucial points.
Hayes & Yeading took 28 minutes to break down the Yate defence with Moses Emmanuel’s 36th goal
of the season in all competitions. But it wasn’t until the 86th minute that Paul Hughes’ side could relax
when Francis Amartey added a second, which was swiftly followed three minutes later with a third from
Amartey, and Hassan Jalloh made it 4-0 in stoppage time.
Farnborough are now third, three points behind the top two, after winning 2-0 at the Easy As HGV
Stadium against Poole Town. A goal from Reggie Young after 10 minutes gave Boro the lead in front
of 444. Six minutes after the break, Elliott Buchanan made it 2-0 to ensure the win and keep
Farnborough in the frame.
Weston-super-Mare, Chesham United and Truro City are set to battle it out for the final play-off
spot – and all won on Saturday.
The Seagulls currently hold fifth place, a point in front of Chesham and five of Truro but have played
a game more. They won 3-1 at Privett Park in front of 555 against Gosport Borough, Sonny Cox after
34 minutes and Marlon Jackson a minute before half-time gave Weston a two-goal interval cushion.
Matty Paterson reduced the arrears eight minutes into the second half, only for Jackson to notch his
second to secure three valuable points for the Seagulls.
Chesham pushed Merthyr Town to within a whisker of relegation after winning 3-0 at the Met
Coaches Stadium. Only Kings Langley’s 2-1 home defeat to Swindon Supermarine has kept the
Martyrs alive for another few days. Francis Jno-Baptiste gave the Generals an 11th-minute lead, but it
wasn’t until 18 minutes from time that Jaden Thompson-Brissett netted Chesham’s second. Shaquille
Hippolyte-Patrick added a third with four minutes remaining.
Truro are the outsiders in the race, but they kept their season going with a 2-0 win at Bolitho Park
against Walton Casuals, for whom this was a fourth successive defeat. Will Dean gave the White
Tigers the lead 2 minutes before half-time. Rio Garside added a second with 14 minutes to go.
Swindon Supermarine opened the scoring in the 40th minute at the Orbital Fasteners Stadium
through Conor McDonagh. Substitute Ben De Lacey-Turner equalised on 57 minutes, but McDonagh
restored ‘Marine’s lead almost immediately – a lead they held on to.
Dorchester Town pulled six points clear of third-from-bottom Kings Langley after a 3-0 Avenue
Stadium win over Hendon. The Magpies` Jack Bycroft saved Erin Kinali’s 27th-minute penalty to keep
the scoreline blank at the break. And then three minutes after the restart, Alfie Stanley put the home
side in front. Just shy of the hour-mark, Stanley made it 2-0 and four minutes into stoppage time, Olaf
Koszela added a third.
Hartley Wintney will deem themselves relatively safe now after a 0-0 draw at already doomed
Wimborne Town pushed them ten points clear of that third-from-bottom spot.
It also finished 0-0 at Earlsmead between Harrow Borough and Salisbury, but there were eight goals
at Holloways Park between mid-table sides Beaconsfield Town and Tiverton Town, who won 5-3.
Scott Donnelly gave the Rams an 11th-minute lead that Andy Watkins levelled eight minutes later. On
26 minutes, Tivvy went ahead through Nelson Iseguan and three minutes later, Dan Hayfield made it 3-
1 to the visitors from distance. A Luis Morrison penalty made it 4-1 just before the break and then five
minutes into the second half, Toby Little pulled one back for the hosts, who reduced the deficit to just
one on 74 minutes with a second for Little. But a stoppage-time spot-kick converted again by Morrison
made it 5-3.
