P. 3
Good afternoon and a warm welcome to all players, staff and supporters from
Millbrook. We would also like to extend our welcome to today's match officials,
referee Mike Halford and his two assistants, Luke Hulbert & Mark Oswin.
This is our first meeting of the season against today's opponents who currently sit
mid-table and we are under no illusion that this will be anything other than a tough
encounter.
On Tuesday we had our first home match in over 3 weeks as we hosted Paulton
Rovers in the Somerset Cup. Rovers, led up front by former Keynsham striker Will
Hailston who bagged over 30 goals for us last season, were out to impress their
new management team of Craig Loxton and John Durbin.
In what was a fairly even first half, it was the visitors who went in 1-0 up at
halftime. In the second half, we came out and really took the game to them with
Riley Gifford-Hobbs finishing off a great team move with 10 minutes left. Still
chances fell to both sides, but after 90 minutes it went to penalties with us
unfortunately being on the losing side of a 4-5 shootout.
The fact that the lads came off disappointed but in good spirits really reflects what
we all saw in one of the team’s best performances of the season.
I try not to sound repetitive in these notes, but as a team the lads have come so
far since the summer. We are gaining plaudits every week which is so great to hear.
Ash Morgan and Marvin Brown have had many challenges on and off the pitch since
they arrived at Crown Fields, but they have assembled a great group of talented,
hungry and competitive players. They have bought in Juan Mascunano, who has
an infectious passion for the game and is always trying to instil in the players that
football should be played in an attacking and entertaining way. The committee are
incredibly grateful for all of their combined hard work.
I would also like to say a big thank you to our loyal fan base this season, who have
backed us superbly, and to all of our sponsors for their invaluable support.
As has been publicised on social media, we are offering Season Ticket holders of
Bristol City and Bristol Rovers entry to our home matches for our Concessionary
price of £4 during the World Cup period. It is the ideal time to support your local
side and perhaps get the next generation involved!
Let's hope for a big performance from our lads this afternoon.
Up the K's
