Good evening and welcome to our wonderful new 3G facility for today’s game.
This is a magnificent facility brought about over the last 3 years by the
commitment, dedication, and lots of very hard work by several key individuals and
I would like to express my sincere thanks and appreciation to John Gibbs, Neale
Saunders and Paul Griffin who have worked tirelessly to bring this about.
The Centre was formed in 1949 and originally was a little hut and over the years
has grown and been developed to become one of the largest Community Centres
in the Southwest and this Facility is another part of that continued development.
Longwell Green Sports have been playing at the Centre since 1966 with the Senior
section having 5 teams and Juniors over 50 teams, the largest junior club in Bristol.
The facility will be operated and managed by Longwell Green Community Sports
Ltd as a commercial business, Paul Griffin is the Facility Manager. The pitch will be
primarily used by Longwell Green teams for training and matches. There will be a
number of slots for casual hirers.
During the day it is planned to host Walking Football, Walking Rugby, and other
health & wellbeing activities. It is hoped that local schools and community groups
will want to hire the facility.
There is still a little bit of infrastructure work to complete but the Contractors team
have done a tremendous job and delivered a high- quality facility.
We have received great support from Oldland Parish Council, South Gloucestershire
Council, Gloucestershire Football Association and The Football Foundation and
many local people in the Community.
What has been created here will be a great legacy for the future of the Centre and
will provide a long- term home for Longwell Green Sports
Enjoy the game and take-in the wonderful facility.
