WELCOME
A welcome to the South West Interiors Stadium today for another series of home matches,
the last before our Boxing Day fixture. This double edition of the programme covers our
fixtures against high flying Chesham United first followed by Hendon.
The last time we played at home was a nine goal thriller which had everyone on the edge of
their seats. Nine out of ten for entertainment but a lot of strained nerves for the last ten
minutes, I guess the writing was on the wall having conceded within a minute that the game
would have plenty of goals, and credit for both sides. More recently the visit to Met Police
offered a more sobering 1-0 victory but importantly a clean sheet and three points. With
things so close at the foot of the table that win moved us up the table five places and at long
last clear of the relegation places.
On the player front we welcomed Darren Mullings back from suspension on Saturday and
new signing James Byrne started in his first game after his transfer from Paulton Rovers on
Friday. In the physio room we still have Pierce Mitchell and Tom Richards recovering from
injury.
The run in to Christmas has us travelling to the capital for two tough fixtures first against
Hanwell Town on Saturday 17th December (coach leaves the clubhouse at 10am) and then
soon after we travel to Hayes & Yeading on Tuesday 20th December (coach leaves clubhouse
at 4.30 pm).
The Pitching In Southern League will again be supporting Shelter's #NoHomeKitcampaign
for the festive fixtures this year. Despite Covid-related postponements, last year's campaign
was a huge success, with hundreds of clubs getting involved, altogether raising over £500k
for the cause. Clubs have been asked to dedicate one home fixture across the Christmas
period to the campaign. Most importantly, this means wearing No Home Kit for that fixture.
We will therefore dedicate our Boxing Day fixture v Merthyr Town to Shelter's #NoHomeKit.
More details will follow on our social channels in the run up to Christmas.
And so to our opponents for this week. First up we host third place Chesham United who
have been in the race for promotion since the start of the season. Having won twelve of their
nineteen fixtures so far this season, only losing twice wit the remainder drawn. They average
two goals a game but do concede one a game, that said they come into this game on a run
of nine unbeaten having won the last four. Goals seem to come from across the Generals
squad however Jordan Edwards with four from his last two league appearances is obviously
one to watch.
On Saturday we welcome Hendon to the South West Interiors Stadium. The Dons currently
sit in the mix at the bottom of the table but as we realised on Saturday a good win moves
you swiftly up the table. In our first meeting at the very start of the season the Bluebells
managed to secure the three points however arguably we were very fortunate and Hendon
did everything except score that day. Since then they have only managed four victories, one
less than Yate, but have a better goal difference which shows how close their results have
been. Recent form has them lost three, won four, drawn five. This will be a tight fixture with
both sides looking at a potential ’six pointer’.
C’mon you #Bluebells…...
