A few words from the manager...
FILTON ATHLETIC 3 - 0 ALMONDSBURY (GFA CUP - 14th December 2024)
“A great performance last weekend in the cup against a very good
Almondsbury side. Although the day didn’t start that well for us with a few lads
pulling out with injury and illness which added to those already missing due to
holiday; so we were left with only one sub on the day which wasn’t ideal.
However, that all changed from the kick off with our skipper scoring from his
own half in the first few seconds. From then on it was a totally dominant first
half performance, we pressed the ball exceptionally well and played some
fantastic football putting the ball in the back of the net on 3 more occasions
(with another dubious offside decision!).
We knew the second half was going to be tough due to our numbers so we set
up for it and in my opinion the second half performance was the best of the
season, the lads ran until they couldn’t run anymore and kept Almondsbury
very quiet with zero efforts on goal and we still created some good chances of
our own. We finished the game with 10 men due to injury and a lack of bench
but 3-0 job done onto the next round.
A massive task ahead of us again with Sharpness who are looking to push for
the league title. We knew this period would be tough over Xmas and New Year,
so hopefully another good shift from the lads and we can get something from
this game”
